Sony’s new Alpha 7R V is the newest R-series model in its acclaimed line of Alpha mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras! The Alpha 7R V combines Sony's highest resolution image sensor in an Alpha camera with a new AI (artificial intelligence) processing unit dedicated to AI-based image recognition -- a first in any Alpha camera -- as well as the powerful BIONZ XR image processing engine -- a first in the "R" full-frame lineup. The combination of the high-resolution sensor and these processors enables new breakthroughs in subject recognition and capture for both still photography and video.

A screen that moves on four axes

The monitor combines tilt and side-swing, so you can frame at ground level and above your head, portrait and landscape, without screen, lens or cable getting in each other’s way.

A viewfinder with 9.44 million dots

The electronic viewfinder resolves enough to judge sharpness while shooting. The menu is new, touch-driven and widely customisable.

Real-time subject recognition

The AI unit tracks the subject and holds focus and exposure on it. Silent shooting reaches 7 frames per second and the RAW burst takes up to 583 frames — you do not have to decide when to stop.

8K video and 4K from 6.2K

8K 24/25p recording, 4K oversampled from 6.2K, HEVC/H.265, All-Intra and ten-bit 4:2:2 sampling.

More Accurate AF
The Alpha 7R V introduces a new generation of Sony AF technology: “Real-time Recognition AF”! Thanks to artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, it provides significantly more accurate recognition of subjects in the scene—including the full outlines of human figures and their poses—for substantially better results compared to face or eye detection. The system also recognizes animals, vehicles, and more. The Alpha 7R V also allows for continuous shooting at up to 10 fps, including AF/AE tracking. In addition, it features a faster and more accurate area AF system, silent, vibration-free shooting at up to 7 fps, continuous high-speed shooting in RAW (up to 583 frames), the DMFx (Direct Manual Focus) function, and sequential saving of images with different focus settings (Focus Bracketing).

Exceptional Resolution
The Alpha 7R V is the gateway to highly detailed, perfectly rendered photos and videos thanks to the powerful BIONZ XR processor and the 35mm full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor with approximately 61 effective megapixels. As a result, it offers an ISO range of 100 to 32,000 (for both photos and videos) and a dynamic range of up to 15 EV (for still images). The entire image stabilization system has also undergone significant improvements (new gyro sensors and optimized algorithms). Another new feature is flicker suppression when taking photos or recording video under artificial lighting.

8K Video
In addition to its outstanding photographic capabilities, the Alpha 7R V also offers a wide range of advanced video features, including 8K 24/25p recording, 4K video recorded by downsampling from 6.2K, the highly efficient MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 codec, All-Intra recording, support for 4:2:2/10-bit sampling, and more. When shooting video, the camera also utilizes new features for real-time subject recognition, “breathing” compensation, and metadata storage for later post-production. In addition to the in-body image stabilization, the camera also supports compatible lenses with image stabilization.

Ergonomics and Reliability
The compact and lightweight body of the Alpha 7R V features a new tilting LCD monitor with four-axis movement and a high-performance EVF with a resolution of 9.44 MP. The camera also offers two slots compatible with CFexpress Type A/SDXC memory cards and a new touch-controlled menu system, including a wide range of user settings. Data can be transferred via high-speed Wi-Fi (802.11ac, 2x2 MIMO) or through a SuperSpeed USB 10 Gb/s (USB-C) interface. The USB interface can now also be used for video streaming (UVC/UAC) at resolutions up to 4K (QFHD), including audio. Thanks to improved heat dissipation from the camera’s electronics, longer recording times are achieved, and the dust and moisture sealing system has also been enhanced.
