With a total length of 149 mm and a weight of approximately 0,8 kg (excluding the tripod mount), it is a zoom lens that can be used for a wide range of purposes, including sports scenes, landscapes, wildlife, and even macro photography (maximum magnification of 0.5x throughout).
70–200 mm at a constant f/4, with aspherical elements and ED glass. Autofocus is up to a fifth faster than in the previous version.

The focus range limiter shortens hunting at long focal lengths and the AF/MF switch changes mode without a trip into the menu. Dust and moisture sealing assumes you work outdoors.

XD linear motors speed autofocus by up to 20 % and clearly improve tracking of moving subjects — including while you change focal length. On an Alpha 1 body it keeps up with 30 frames per second.
The new stabilisation mode recalculates shake compensation to hold the image steady while walking. On a compatible body it is the difference between a usable and an unusable take.

Take the collar off when the lens hangs from your neck, put it back the moment you move to a tripod or into macro.
The aperture does not change as you zoom, so exposure stays where you set it.
The build assumes outdoor work — you do not have to pack the lens away in every shower.
Thanks to its advanced design incorporating aspherical elements, the Sony FE 70-200 mm f/4 Macro G OSS II offers outstanding optical resolution and contrast across the entire image area, while the use of ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass helps effectively suppress chromatic aberrations. The XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear stepper motor increases autofocus speed by up to 20% compared to the previous version, and tracking of moving subjects has also been significantly improved, even while zooming. When paired with the Alpha 1 body, you can shoot in burst mode at up to 30 fps! The new SteadyShot MODE3 improves (on compatible camera bodies) the image stabilization algorithm for greater stability when shooting while moving. In addition to the focus range limiter and AF/MF switch, the lens also features a removable tripod mount for more stable shooting in macro and telephoto modes. Dust and moisture seals are standard, making it easier to work outdoors.
