The Sony ECM-W5 wireless microphone system includes two ECM-W5T transmitters, an ECM-W5R receiver and a charging case. The receiver mounts on the Multi Interface Shoe of a compatible Sony camera and sends up to four channels of digital audio without a cable. It records at up to 96 kHz / 24-bit or in 32-bit float, reaches up to 500 m and each transmitter keeps a backup on its own 64 GB memory.
Audio recorded in 32-bit float is saved directly as an audio track in the video file in the camera, so there is no syncing to do in post-production. Besides the camera, the transmitters and the receiver also connect to a computer or smartphone over USB-C.
Two transmitters, a receiver for the Multi Interface Shoe and a charging case in one kit. Opening the case puts the receiver in standby, and once taken out of the case the receiver and transmitters are on and ready.

With a camera that has the digital audio interface, the sound travels digitally through the Multi Interface Shoe at up to 96 kHz / 24-bit or 48 kHz / 32-bit float. The receiver is powered by the camera and switches on together with it.
Up to four digital channels go into the camera. With two more ECM-W5T transmitters you record four speakers at once, each on a separate track, which makes editing interviews easier.
Sony wireless headphones with Bluetooth LE Audio connect to the receiver, so you can monitor without a cable. Both the transmitter and the receiver also have a 3.5 mm jack input for a lavalier microphone such as the ECM-L1.
The transmitter and the receiver each run up to 7 hours on their own. With the transmitters recharged in the case and the receiver powered by the camera, you get up to 11 hours in total. Recordings can also be transferred from the case to a computer over USB-C.
Each transmitter records 32-bit float to its own 64 GB memory, and compatible cameras save a WAV file at the same time. Even if the wireless link drops, a clean copy of the audio remains.
The receiver outputs timecode to the connected camera; in USB SYNC mode (currently FX5 only) it works as a timecode generator for multi-camera shoots.
The receiver has an AMOLED touch display and a control wheel for quick settings.
Auto gain or manual from −12 to +12 dB, plus noise cut and low cut in the menu.
With the supplied USB adaptor the receiver connects to a phone or computer; the transmitter also records on its own.
Parts: 1 audio input jack, 2 microphone output jack, 3 touch display, 4 external microphone jack (mono), 5 power and LINK lamp.
