Sony ECM-W5R Wireless Receiver

The Sony ECM-W5R is the standalone receiver of the Sony ECM-W5 wireless system with an AMOLED touch display. It mounts on the Multi Interface Shoe of a compatible Sony camera, is powered by it and accepts up to four ECM-W5T transmitters, sending their audio to the camera digitally on four channels. A spare or second receiver that also connects to a phone or computer via the USB adaptor.

The receiver also outputs timecode to the camera and supports cable-free monitoring with Sony headphones with Bluetooth LE Audio. ECM-W5T transmitters are sold separately or in the ECM-W5 kit.

Digital into the camera

With a camera that has the digital audio interface, the sound travels digitally through the Multi Interface Shoe, up to four channels, each transmitter on its own track. The receiver switches on with the camera and the transmitters power on with it.

Monitor and record from headphones

Sony wireless headphones with Bluetooth LE Audio connect to the receiver for cable-free monitoring. Compatible headphones can also act as a microphone, with which the receiver records binaural audio as well.

Powered by the camera

On the camera the receiver is powered through the shoe, so its battery does not drain even on long shoots. On its own it runs up to 7 hours.

Timecode for multi-camera shoots

The receiver outputs timecode to the connected camera. In USB SYNC mode (currently FX5 only) it syncs over USB-C with the timecode of a compatible Sony camera and works as a timecode generator on multi-camera shoots.

AMOLED and wheel

A high-contrast AMOLED touch display and a control wheel to its right for quick settings.

Phone and computer

The supplied USB adaptor connects the receiver to a USB-C phone or computer without a cable.

Input and output

A 3.5 mm jack input (mono) for an external microphone and a 3.5 mm jack output (stereo).

Four channels into a camera with the digital interface, two channels in analogue.
