The lens has a compact and lightweight design with a diameter of 67mm, measures 75.4mm x 92.4mm and weighs just 445g. You set the aperture on the lens itself, and a switch turns the ring’s clicks on or off. Leave them on for stills; switch them off for video so the click never reaches the soundtrack.

The optics of the FE 24 mm F1.4 GM use thirteen elements in ten groups. Among them are two extreme aspherical XA elements and three ED elements with very low dispersion. The XA elements suppress internal reflections, so point light sources render as points rather than smeared discs — which is why astrophotographers reach for this 24 mm.
