A constant f/4 across the range

The aperture does not change as you zoom, so exposure stays where you set it. Seventeen elements in fourteen groups hold sharpness across the frame.

A range that saves changing lenses

From a wide landscape to a portrait at 105 mm — on the road it removes the lens change, and with it the dust on the sensor.

A Direct Drive SSM motor

The DDSSM drive focuses quickly, accurately and quietly. Quiet running matters most on video, where motor noise would otherwise end up on the soundtrack.

Nine aperture blades

The circular aperture keeps the defocused background smooth and separates the subject better.

Dust and moisture resistance

The build assumes demanding outdoor conditions, so the lens does not have to stay at home.

Light for its class

For this zoom range the lens is compact — you notice it after a full day of carrying.

77 mm thread and hood included

A common filter size and a lens hood you do not have to buy separately.
