Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS

An incomparably better telephoto lens with F2.8 zoom. The 70-200mm zoom lens with F2.8 constant aperture offers the outstanding resolution and bokeh of the G Master Series. The lens keeps its length while zooming and focusing, the optical stabiliser damps hand shake, and the aperture has 11 blades. It focuses from 0.96 m, and the tripod collar rotates and detaches.

Constant length when zooming and focusing

The barrel does not extend as you zoom or focus, so the balance stays put and the lens handles well both handheld and on a tripod. Inside, two independent focus drives and optical image stabilisation do the work.

Controls right on the barrel

Focus hold buttons keep the focus point even during continuous AF. The focus range limiter presets the distance range in which autofocus searches, making it faster. The stabilisation switch includes MODE 2 for panning shots.

A tripod mount that rotates and comes off

Remove the tripod mount when you need to move quickly from tripod to handheld shooting. The revolving mechanism switches between landscape and portrait, and a lock prevents accidental detachment.

Two motors for two focus groups

A ring drive RDSSM ultrasonic motor moves the front group and a double linear motor the rear group. Position sensors report the exact lens position to the body, so its autofocus runs at full capacity. For video, focus breathing is kept to a minimum and the mechanism runs quietly.

Extreme aspherical XA element

Three aspherical elements, one of them an XA element with 0.01 micron surface precision, control aberrations for high resolution and smooth bokeh.

ED and Super ED glass

Four ED and two Super ED elements suppress the chromatic aberration that shows up as colour fringing in telephoto lenses.

Nano AR Coating

An anti-reflective coating with a regular nano-structure suppresses flare and ghosting and lifts contrast against the light.

Sealed against dust and moisture

A dust and moisture resistant design and a fluorine coating on the front element protect the lens when working outdoors.
