The Tilta DB-SYA9-DCF21 is a Sony NP-FZ100 dummy battery with a 43.8 cm cable ending in a 5.5/2.1 mm DC female socket. It sits in the battery compartment of a Sony body that uses the NP-FZ100 — a9, a7 III, a7R III and others — and powers it over a cable with a 5.5/2.1 mm DC male plug from a source whose voltage matches the NP-FZ100 battery. The body runs the whole shoot without a battery swap.
The Tilta DB-SYA9-DCF21 replaces the Sony NP-FZ100 battery with a cable ending in a DC socket. The dummy battery has the shape and contacts of the original pack, seats in the compartment on the first try and draws its power from outside — from a source with a voltage matching the NP-FZ100 battery that has a cable with a 5.5/2.1 mm DC male plug.
The dummy battery goes into the battery compartment in place of the Sony NP-FZ100 pack: into Sony mirrorless bodies that use this battery (a9, a9 II, a9 III, a7 III, a7 IV, a7 V, a7R III through a7R V, a7S III, a7C, a7C II, a7CR, a1, ZV-E1, a6600, a6700), into the FX3, FX30 and FX2 cameras, and into accessories powered from an NP-FZ100 through a battery adapter. The body of the dummy is ABS plastic, the cable has a rubber jacket and the socket an aluminum-alloy housing; the cable is 43.8 cm long, so the source sits on the cage right behind the body.
The other end of the cable is a 5.5/2.1 mm DC female socket — the most common size of coaxial DC connector. It takes a cable with a 5.5/2.1 mm DC male plug from a source whose output voltage matches the NP-FZ100 battery — the dummy itself does not regulate voltage, so the source must deliver what the battery would.
A dummy with a DC socket suits setups where the source changes with the situation: one source on the cage, another on the tripod — the dummy stays in the compartment and only the plug-ended cable is swapped. For a permanently mounted plate there is the same version with a P-Tap plug (DB-SYA9-PTAP); for USB-C PD sources, the coiled DB-SYFZ-USBC cable.
A dummy battery has the shape and contacts of the original pack, sits in the battery compartment and brings power in by cable from outside — from a V-Mount or Gold Mount plate via P-Tap, from a USB-C PD source, over 2-pin Lemo or a DC output. The body then runs the whole shoot without a battery swap. Tilta's DB series covers Canon LP-E6 and BP, Sony NP-FZ100 and the A9 series and Panasonic GH; this cable is one of them.
