The Tilta DB-SYA9-PTAP is a Sony NP-FZ100 dummy battery with a 43.8 cm cable ending in a P-Tap (D-Tap) male plug. It sits in the battery compartment of a Sony body that uses the NP-FZ100 — a9, a7 III, a7R III and others — and powers it straight from a V-Mount or Gold Mount plate with a P-Tap output. The large plate keeps the body running for the whole shoot without a battery swap.
The Tilta DB-SYA9-PTAP replaces the Sony NP-FZ100 battery with a cable ending in a P-Tap plug. The dummy battery has the shape and contacts of the original pack, seats in the compartment on the first try and draws its power from outside — from any battery plate with a P-Tap output mounted on the cage.
The dummy battery goes into the battery compartment in place of the Sony NP-FZ100 pack: into Sony mirrorless bodies that use this battery (a9, a9 II, a9 III, a7 III, a7 IV, a7 V, a7R III through a7R V, a7S III, a7C, a7C II, a7CR, a1, ZV-E1, a6600, a6700), into the FX3, FX30 and FX2 cameras, and into accessories powered from an NP-FZ100 through a battery adapter. The materials are rubber, aluminum alloy and ABS plastic; the cable is 43.8 cm long — the distance from the body's compartment to a plate at the back of the cage.
The other end of the cable is a P-Tap (D-Tap) male plug, the most common power output on battery plates. It goes straight into a V-Mount or Gold Mount plate — the Tilta Universal Battery Plate, the Mini PD V-Mount plate or the Smart V-Mount baseplate — with no further adapters. The large battery on the plate then powers the body and the rest of the accessories on the cage from a single source.
A dummy with a P-Tap plug suits a cage with a permanently mounted plate: the cable is short, runs along the body and sticks out nowhere. For sources with a DC output there is the same version with a 5.5/2.1 mm DC socket (DB-SYA9-DCF21); for USB-C PD sources, the coiled DB-SYFZ-USBC cable.
A dummy battery has the shape and contacts of the original pack, sits in the battery compartment and brings power in by cable from outside — from a V-Mount or Gold Mount plate via P-Tap, from a USB-C PD source, over 2-pin Lemo or a DC output. The body then runs the whole shoot without a battery swap. Tilta's DB series covers Canon LP-E6 and BP, Sony NP-FZ100 and the A9 series and Panasonic GH; this cable is one of them.
