Blackmagic PYXIS 12K EF is a digital film camera with a 12,288 × 8040 full frame RGBW sensor, optical low pass filter, 16 stops of dynamic range and a fixed active, locking EF mount. It records Blackmagic RAW and H.264 proxies to two CFexpress Type B cards or to an external disk via USB-C, outputs video over 12G-SDI and uses 10G Ethernet for Blackmagic Cloud, streaming and network control.
A box-style body with mounting points on every side that you build exactly to your production – from studio rig and gimbal to drone.

The same Generation 5 Color Science as URSA Cine: accurate skin tones, a dynamic 12-bit gamma curve and images with a natural, film-like response to grading in DaVinci Resolve.
Small H.264 proxies upload to Blackmagic Cloud while you shoot – over Ethernet or a 4G/5G phone connected to USB-C – and editors have them in DaVinci Resolve within seconds.
10 Gb/s Ethernet provides camera control via REST API, a web media manager in your browser, file download over FTP and SMB and time sync via NTP.
The compact body is CNC machined from aerospace aluminum, so it is lightweight yet very strong. Multiple 1/4″ and 3/8″ threads on the top and bottom let you rig it on a crane, gimbal or drone, and side plates extend mounting options for handles, microphones and even SSD drives.

The 35.64 × 23.32 mm full frame RGBW sensor with a native 12,288 × 8040 resolution and built-in optical low pass filter is almost three times larger than Super 35. It allows shallow depth of field and uncropped anamorphic lenses; the sensor records 12K, 8K or 4K from its full width.

With 16 stops of dynamic range, highlights and shadows keep their detail – the bright exterior through a window and the café interior in one shot. ISO from 200 to 3200 is optimized for ISO 800, so the camera handles scenes without extra lighting.

12K 3:2 open gate up to 40 fps, 12K 2.4:1 up to 60 fps and 8K or 4K from the full sensor width up to 112 fps. True 6:5 anamorphic can be shot in 9.6K (9648 × 8040) and the Super 35 window in 9K up to 80 fps.

PYXIS is available with an L-Mount, locking EF or PL mount. This model has an active, locking EF mount for Canon compatible photo and cine lenses you may already own from a DSLR; iris and focus are controlled on supported lenses and lens data from electronic EF lenses is recorded into the metadata.

The built-in 4″ Full HD HDR touchscreen with 1500 nits is used for framing, focusing and reviewing shots without an external monitor, even in direct sunlight. It shows status and record parameters, histogram, audio levels, frame guides and 3D LUTs for monitoring.

ISO, white balance and shutter have their own buttons as well as touch control, next to a scroll wheel for quick changes. Three assignable buttons and the record, still, high frame rate, zoom and menu buttons are where you expect them; the controls can be locked against accidental changes.

The standard side plate made of aerospace aluminum has two 1/4″ threads and one 3/8″ thread for a microphone or bracket. The SSD side plate securely holds a USB-C disk for recording or a phone for live streaming. The optional Rosette Plate adds five 1/4″ threads, four 3/8″ threads and a rosette for handgrips.

Two CFexpress Type B slots record full resolution 12-bit Blackmagic RAW; a full card can be swapped without stopping the recording. The USB-C expansion port (10 Gb/s) allows direct recording to an external disk that you then edit straight from in DaVinci Resolve.

The camera continuously records to a cache and, when you press record, adds the selected duration from 5 seconds to 10 minutes to the start of the file. Unexpected moments in documentaries, news or live events are not missed, and only what is needed is saved.

The camera uses common BP-U series batteries; the highest capacity ones give you over 3 hours of shooting. For mains power it has a locking 2-pin Lemo compatible input (12–18 V) that will not pull out even on a crane; the 90W power supply is included.

USB-C connects a flash disk, SSD or a 4G/5G phone for mobile data. 10 Gb/s Ethernet uploads proxies to Blackmagic Cloud, controls the camera via REST API and lets you copy files over the network; mobile data and Ethernet also serve the built-in RTMP and SRT streaming to YouTube, Facebook or X.

The accurate timecode clock drifts less than one frame every 8 hours. The BNC input accepts external timecode as well as reference (tri-sync / black burst), so several cameras shoot with matching timecode and DaVinci Resolve syncs the shots automatically.

The mini XLR input with 48V phantom power switches between mic and line level (up to +14 dBu), and the 3.5 mm input accepts a video camera microphone. The built-in low noise stereo microphone records guide tracks, with a speaker and a 3.5 mm headphone output for monitoring.

Blackmagic RAW saves camera settings as metadata, so ISO, white balance and exposure can be changed during grading without loss of quality. The camera loads 17 and 33 point 3D LUTs, and the full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio is included.

For handheld and outdoor work, the optional Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF with a 1920 × 1080 OLED display connects with a single USB-C cable to the viewfinder port. Blackmagic PYXIS Monitor adds a 5″ HDR touchscreen with full camera control wherever the built-in screen is hidden on the rig.

The front carries the viewfinder port, the mini XLR input and the active, locking EF mount; the side has the BP-U battery port, two CFexpress slots, 12G-SDI output up to 2160p60, REF / timecode input, Ethernet, USB-C and the locking DC input. The bottom has two 3/8″ and seven 1/4″ tripod threads.

The body measures 119 × 106 × 182 mm and weighs 1.75 kg without lens and battery.

Blackmagic PYXIS models can shoot in all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD to DCI 4K, 6K, 8K and even 12K. The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K offers a sensor that allows you to shoot at 12K, 8K or 4K resolutions at full sensor size. You can shoot up to 40 frames per second at 12288 x 8040 3:2 open gate, 60 frames per second at 12288 x 5112 2.4:1 and 112 frames per second at 4096 x 1704 (4K 2.4:1).
Blackmagic PYXIS models feature a large full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032 or a massive 12288 x 8040. This is nearly three times larger than the Super 35 sensor and allows customers to shoot with shallow depth of field or use anamorphic lenses without cropping for a true cinematic look. Whether shooting in bright light or almost no light, the huge dynamic range with the high-performance sensor delivers stunning low-noise images in all lighting conditions. In addition, PYXIS allows customers to shoot up to 112 frames per second. This amazing sensor gives customers the quality that the most expensive digital film cameras have.
Using the entire sensor area gives customers a unique 3:2 open gate image, which also allows them to reformat the footage in post-production. The large sensor also allows them to work in true 6:5 anamorphic format without cropping, making wide-angle film shots more detailed and higher resolution than before.
The Blackmagic PYXIS has a built-in 4″ high-resolution HDR touchscreen display, which is ideal for monitoring and controlling footage on set. Its full HD resolution allows customers to properly frame and focus shots without having to carry a bulky external monitor. Alternatively, the Blackmagic PYXIS Monitor can be attached to the camera - a versatile 5″ HDR touchscreen monitor with full camera control that can be mounted almost anywhere.
Innovative side plates further expand the camera's mounting options. The standard plate that comes with the Blackmagic PYXIS is made from the same aircraft aluminum as the camera body and includes two 1/4″ threads and one 3/8″ thread, allowing customers to add microphones, mounts or other accessories. Or users can attach the included SSD plate, which provides a convenient place to securely connect a USB-C drive for recording or even a mobile phone for live streaming.
Blackmagic PYXIS records in Blackmagic RAW to maintain control over detail, exposure and color during post-production. It also records HD H.264 proxies in real-time, making it easy to share media around the world in minutes. This means images retain unprecedented resolution and quality for color, keying, compositing, reformatting, stabilization and tracking in HD, 4K, 6K, 8K or even 12K.
Blackmagic PYXIS includes two built-in CFexpress card slots for recording and a USB-C expansion port for recording directly to external flash media or SSDs. CFexpress media is more durable and faster than legacy media, making it ideal for recording full resolution 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files.
Blackmagic PYXIS records HD proxies in H.264. A small proxy file can be uploaded to the Blackmagic Cloud in seconds, even while the camera is still recording, making their media available back in the studio in real time. When uploading to Blackmagic Cloud, customers can use an Apple or Android phone to connect to the internet via mobile data. Customers can also connect via wired Ethernet using the camera's Ethernet port. This allows customers to transfer media while filming so that post-production teams around the world can begin working in real time.
Blackmagic PYXIS offers a wide range of connectors for audio, monitoring, power and more. The camera includes a 12G-SDI output for monitoring with support for HDR and Ultra HD output. This means customers can connect an SDI display for on-set monitoring of images. SDI allows for longer cable runs than HDMI, making it easier to reach monitors that are further away from the camera.
Blackmagic PYXIS includes a built-in hardware streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT streaming to YouTube, Facebook, X and more. For Internet access, users have two options - connect via Ethernet or connect a 4G or 5G phone for mobile data. Because streaming is integrated directly into the camera, customers can monitor the streaming status and data stream in the viewfinder and on the LCD display.
Customers can choose between L-Mount, EF or PL lenses, making the Blackmagic PYXIS compatible with the world's widest range of film and photography lenses. The EF model allows the use of high-quality photographic lenses that customers already own from DSLRs or even Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras.
