RGBlink TAO 1tiny 2

The RGBlink TAO 1tiny 2 is a compact 4K inline USB-to-HDMI converter that ingests video from UVC 1.1/1.5 cameras or webcams and outputs uncompressed HDMI 2.0 video, while also supporting NDI streaming and decoding over a Gigabit Ethernet network. It fits in a pocket, runs from a standard USB-C PD power adapter and is set up in a web browser.

The second generation of the TAO 1tiny keeps everything the first could do and adds a silver-grey metal body with better cooling and a Gigabit LAN port. Connect a USB camera or a streaming switcher and get the picture on any HDMI display – or send it to the network as an NDI source.

UVC to HDMI and NDI in one small box

TAO 1tiny 2 converts USB video (UVC 1.1/1.5) to HDMI 2.0 and, via its LAN port, also works as an NDI encoder or decoder. It turns an ordinary USB camera into a professional NDI source, or shows an NDI stream on a monitor, projector or LED wall. It is tested with the ATEM Mini Pro and the RGBlink mini series switchers.

Pocket size, metal body

The converter measures 110 × 64.5 × 25.4 mm and weighs 200 g, so it fits in a pocket or in the bag next to the camera. The silver-grey metal housing with cooling ribs dissipates heat better than the first generation, which helps reliability during long live shows.

USB camera or switcher on an HDMI display

A PTZ USB camera, a webcam or the USB output of a switcher such as the RGBlink mini-pro or ATEM Mini Pro connects to the USB-C input; a monitor, projector or LED screen connects to the HDMI 2.0 output. The input accepts up to 3840 × 2160 at 30 fps, the HDMI output runs up to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps. A streaming switcher thus becomes a presentation mixer for the screens in the room.

USB camera as an NDI source

Via the LAN port, TAO 1tiny 2 sends the picture from a USB camera to the network as an NDI|HX stream (H.264, 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps, 8 Mbps by default). Any NDI receiver, such as Studio Monitor from NDI Tools, then sees it as another camera. The NDI functions are disabled from the factory and are enabled in the web interface.

NDI, RTSP and RTMP streams to HDMI

In the other direction the converter decodes NDI|HX, NDI|HX2 and NDI|HX3 streams up to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps and outputs them to HDMI; Full NDI is not supported. It also accepts RTSP and RTMP streams, for example from an IP PTZ camera, and with the TAO app it shows the camera picture of an Android phone. NDI encoding and decoding cannot run at the same time.

Connections

The converter has a USB-C power input, a USB-C video input (up to 4K), a USB-A 2.0 port (up to 2K) for a UVC camera or a remote control receiver, the HDMI 2.0 output and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The USB-C input also powers the camera (5 V / 1 A). Use a USB-C PD power adapter rated at least 9 V / 2 A; the converter must not be powered from a computer USB port. Wait at least 30 seconds between switching off and on again.

Tested compatibility

The converter works with cameras using the UVC 1.1 and UVC 1.5 protocol. It is tested with the RGBlink mini, mini-pro, mini-edge, mini-mx and vue PTZ 2K, Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini, DJI Osmo Action 5, Osmo Action 4 and Pocket 3, Insta360 X3 and Link UHD 4K AI, OBSBOT Tiny 2K, Tiny 4K, Meet 2K and Meet 4K, as well as Logitech and Yealink webcams.

Setup in a web browser

Settings, signal switching and the NDI functions are controlled in a browser. After power-up the converter shows its IP address on the HDMI output (192.168.5.100 by default); DHCP can be enabled in the network options. The dashboard shows port status, a signal preview and network status. Firmware is updated from a USB flash drive in the USB-A port.
