Nikon Z f + NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 SE

Tell your stories with a classic-looking pair. This kit includes the Z f full-frame mirrorless camera plus the special-edition NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 SE. Hitting the sweet spot between 35mm and 50mm, this small, fast prime lens boasts original design details that perfectly complement the Nikon Z f.

Iconic design inspired by the Nikon FM2

The exterior of the Z f is based on Nikon’s historic FM2 film camera. On top are mechanical dials for ISO sensitivity, shutter speed and exposure compensation with well-defined clicks, so you can see and change the key settings without entering the menu. A small control panel shows the aperture.

Black and white at the flick of a switch

A dedicated switch below the shutter speed dial puts the camera into monochrome mode for both stills and video. It offers the new Flat Monochrome Picture Control with soft tonal gradations and Deep Tone Monochrome with more dramatic contrast, alongside the classic Monochrome preset.

Versatile video

The Z f records 10-bit H.265 video in camera, 4K UHD oversampled from 6K, and 4K UHD up to 60p or Full HD up to 120p. A single clip can run up to 125 minutes. N-Log and HDR (HLG), timecode and waveform display are available. The 8 cm (3.2″) vari-angle touchscreen suits low-angle shooting as well as filming yourself.

FX sensor, EXPEED 7 and 8-stop VR

The 24.5 MP full-frame sensor with the EXPEED 7 processor delivers subject-detection autofocus (people, animals, birds, vehicles, aircraft) working down to −10 EV, high ISO 100–64,000 sensitivity and 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation rated up to 8 stops. The camera focuses on eyes even when hair covers the face or the subject wears glasses.

Pixel shift and portraits

Pixel shift combines several RAW frames into one high-resolution file (in the free NX Studio software). For portraits, Portrait Impression Balance, Skin Softening and the Rich Tone Portrait Picture Control are available.

Two slots and connectivity

The slim body has an SD card slot (UHS-II) and a microSD slot (UHS-I) – the second card can be used for backup, for separate RAW and JPEG storage or for overflow. There is also a USB-C port with power delivery, a Type D HDMI connector, microphone input, headphone output, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 SE lens

The 40 mm prime sits between the classic 35 and 50 mm, making it a natural choice for street, travel and portraits. The f/2 aperture lets you shoot in dim light and separate your subject from the background. The SE special edition takes its looks from film-era NIKKOR lenses and matches the Z f body. 6 elements in 4 groups, focusing from 0.29 m, 52 mm filter thread and a weight of about 170 g.
