Tilta Hydra Alien Mini Ultimate Kit - Desert Beige

A Tilta kit in desert beige that handles shooting from a moving car and handheld alike. The hydraulically damped Hydra Alien Mini arm carries 150 to 600 g and keeps the image steady up to 100 km/h; the 4.5″ electronic suction cup watches its own vacuum and lasts over 14 hours. The Tilta Hydra Alien Mini Ultimate Kit is a sprung mount for action cameras, pocket gimbals and phones that does both — shooting from a moving vehicle and shooting handheld. Along with the 4.5″ electronic suction cup it includes a handheld handle, so you can take the rig off the bonnet and carry on on foot. The whole kit weighs 1048 g and comes in desert beige.

From the car and in the hand

The Ultimate Kit is the Hydra Alien Mini with everything that belongs to it — electronic suction cup, support arm, mounting bracket, counterweight and, on top of that, a handheld handle. Suck it onto the car, or take it off, fit the handle and shoot on the move. The arm is CNC-machined from a single billet of aluminium alloy, measures 181 × 37.4 × 70.46 mm and weighs 372 g; the complete kit 1048 g.

What is in the kit

The kit holds the 114 mm (4.5″) electronic suction cup with rosette bracket, the shock absorbing arm, the support arm, the mounting bracket, a 220 g counterweight, the handheld handle, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 mounting clamp and a soft carrying case of 27 × 23 × 11 cm. The cup monitors its own vacuum: the 2000 mAh battery lasts over 14 hours and charges over USB-C (5 V/1 A).

Hydraulic damping system

The damper is filled with US automotive-grade oil of the kind used in racing dampers. It absorbs the micro-vibrations that would otherwise blur the image and carries 150 to 600 grams — DJI Action 3/4, DJI Osmo Pocket 3, Insta360 X4/X3 or a phone in the Khronos holder. The oil can be topped up at any time.

Infinite 360° adjustment

The joint turns a full 360° and locks in any position — not in steps, but infinitely. The support arm adjusts on two axes over 270°–90°–270°, so you can push the rig away from the bodywork or swing it along it. The camera mounts on a 25 mm rosette.

The handle turns the mount into a stabiliser

The included handheld handle goes on in place of the suction cup, and the vehicle mount becomes a handheld rig in seconds. The shock absorbing arm soaks up footsteps and jolts, so even walking over rough ground looks smooth. Up to 100 km/h the rig takes the ride just as well — on a car, a motorcycle, an e-bike or a plain bicycle.

Using the suction cup safely

Fit the suction cup on a flat surface and keep the weight of the arm balanced over its centre. Extending the arm well past the cup, or side-mounting it, increases the risk of it letting go — secure the rig with a ratchet strap or a safety cable in those situations. When attaching, always press the cup down firmly so that it sits visibly flatter.

Like any suction cup it can leave a mark on the surface, the more so in direct sun and heat. Do not use it on a wrapped vehicle, and protect paintwork with a protective film.
