ATEM Television Studio 4K8 2TB is a live production switcher with a built-in broadcast control panel – a whole television studio in one portable desk for halls, clubs, schools and compact broadcast vans. It offers eight standards-converted 12G-SDI inputs up to Ultra HD 2160p60, ten 12G-SDI aux outputs, hardware streaming via RTMP and SRT, recording of the program to the built-in 2TB M.2 storage or USB disks, multiview, a 58-channel audio mixer, four ATEM Advanced Chroma Key, talkback and Blackmagic Cloud support.
ATEM Television Studio 4K8 2TB combines a switcher, a broadcast control panel with T-bar, an audio mixer, multiview, streaming and recording to built-in 2TB storage in one unit that fits even where there is no room for racks.

Switcher, control panel, audio mixer, talkback, multiview, streaming encoder and recorder in one chassis with built-in 100–240 V AC mains power and a backup 12 V DC input.
The desk fits into small clubs, halls and compact broadcast vans; for stability it can even be mounted inset into a desk.
The Mac and Windows app gives access to every switcher feature; over Ethernet several computers can connect at the same time.
The front panel uses the same buttons as large broadcast switchers: program and preview rows with LCD labels, a select bus for keyer and DVE sources, ten macro buttons, a T-bar for manual transitions, record and stream buttons and direct switching of two aux outputs. Audio control has its own LCD with level metering and rotary knobs, and a 3-axis joystick sits on the upper section of the panel.

Each of the eight 12G-SDI inputs has its own standards converter and re-sync, so HD and Ultra HD sources up to 2160p60 can be mixed. Connect cameras with SDI outputs such as Blackmagic Studio Camera or Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, as well as recorders and other sources.

A source is set up on the preview row and goes to air only with the CUT or AUTO button, so mistakes are caught before viewers see them; for volunteers a simpler A/B mode can be selected. Transitions include mix, dip to color, SMPTE wipes, DVE squeeze and push, graphic wipe and stinger.

The DVE creates picture in picture with borders, shadows and lighting in real time. SuperSource layers four extra DVEs over a media pool or live background into a separate input – perfect for interviews with several guests within one graphic.

The ATEM Advanced Chroma Key keyers remove green or blue backgrounds; a color picker sets the parameters automatically and foreground correction matches the layers. Two media players with fill and key draw on a pool of 20 stills and clips of up to 720 frames in 720p, 360 in 1080p or 90 in 2160p for animations and stingers.

The 58-channel mixer has separate channels for every SDI input and for the XLR, RCA and MADI inputs; each offers a 6-band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, expander and noise gate and is controlled from the panel or ATEM Software Control. Talkback accepts a 5-pin headset and connects via RJ45 to systems such as ClearCom or RTS; MADI adds microphones with ATEM Microphone Converter. Digital audio goes to Fairlight Live over USB-C.

The multiview on the SDI and HDMI outputs shows up to 16 windows in 16, 13, 10, 7 or 4 layouts – inputs, program, preview, media players and SuperSource with tally, labels and audio meters, in HD or Ultra HD. Status views track recording, streaming and the mixer.

The built-in hardware encoder streams via RTMP and SRT to YouTube, Facebook or Twitch over Ethernet or through a 4G/5G phone connected to USB, and can send the stream to Blackmagic Cloud Stream Router. USB-C appears to a computer as a 1080p webcam, so the program goes straight into Zoom, Teams or OBS.

The program is recorded as H.264 MP4 with AAC audio, Ultra HD as H.265 to the built-in 2TB M.2 NVMe memory or to USB disks on the two USB-C ports; when one disk is full, recording continues on the next. It is started with buttons on the panel and its status shows in the multiview.

The built-in storage and connected USB disks are shared over Ethernet, so editors, colorists and graphics artists can work with files while recording is still running. With Blackmagic Cloud sync, recordings also reach other ATEM Television Studio units or Blackmagic Cloud Stores in other locations.

The 100–240 V AC mains supply is built into the unit, so there is no external adapter to carry; the 4-pin XLR 12 V DC input serves as backup or for running from batteries. The electronics are modular – a technician can swap the connector board after removing the bottom cover.

The rear carries AC and 12 V DC power, reference, timecode and MADI on BNC, two USB-C ports, RS-422 remote control, RJ45 for external talkback, a 4-port 10G Ethernet switch, eight 12G-SDI inputs, twelve 12G-SDI outputs including ten aux, program and multiview, HDMI multiview, analog audio outputs, an RCA stereo input, two XLR inputs and 5-pin talkback.

The desk measures 585.2 × 375.2 × 161.2 mm (the joystick rises a further 16 mm) and weighs 6.76 kg; it can stand on a desk or be mounted inset into the desk top.

Compact Design, Powerful Features While ATEM Television Studio 4K8 is a compact design, it still includes very powerful broadcast features. Customers get an advanced broadcast grade switcher, with built in ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers, Fairlight audio mixer, DVE, still store for graphics and much more. Most of the features can be operated from the front panel, or customers can use the free ATEM Software Control on Mac or Windows to access even more features. With a little fun experimentation it’s possible for anyone to create high end broadcast quality live television.
Customers can select from exciting transitions such as dissolve, or more dramatic effects such as dip to color, DVE squeeze and DVE push. Customers can even add a DVE for picture in picture effects with customized graphics. There are also media players which let customers store graphics with alpha channels for titles and graphics that customers can load as live video inputs. Then customers can live stream the results.
Integrated Control Panel The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 combines a switcher and control panel into the same unit, so it’s extremely portable. The front panel includes buttons for selecting sources, triggering transitions and setting up video effects. Plus the buttons are the same high-end type used on expensive broadcast switchers. Customers also get a built in t-bar for manual transition control. The front panel even has an innovative audio mixer control area with live metering on a dedicated LCD.
Media Pool The built-in media pool stores broadcast quality graphics and animations that can be played back using the built in media players. For highest quality, all media supports RGB colorspace with alpha channel, allowing transparency and layering. The media pool can hold 20 HD/UHD resolution stills, and motion graphics clips for animations and stingers can be up to 720 frames in 720HD, 360 frames in 1080HD and 90 frames in 2160 Ultra HD.
Keyers and Effects One of the benefits of ATEM Television Studio is the range of professional built-in video effects. The t-bar fader can be used to transition video effects, or customers can do the transition automatically by pressing the auto button. There is a wide range of SMPTE wipes included, plus fun DVE effects that slide or squeeze the image off screen when transitioning between video sources.
ATEM Television Studio is perfect for news and on-set presentation work because it features 4 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers for green screen keying effects. The chroma keyers are incredibly powerful and include features such as a color picker to sample background colors for automatic generation of the key parameters. Customers get precise controls for edge and flare, and there is even a foreground color corrector so customers can match the foreground and background layers for seamless compositions. The keyer can also be used for pattern and DVE keying.
In addition to the DVE in the ATEM Television Studio, there is also a powerful SuperSource multi layer processor. SuperSource gives customers 4 extra DVE layers plus a background layer, all layered together as an additional input source. SuperSource is perfect for doing multiple picture in picture displays with people being interviewed because customers can set up the effect so the viewer can see each person being interviewed all within a stylish graphic.
Professional Connections With 8 12G-SDI video inputs, ATEM Television Studio 4K8 lets customers connect multiple cameras for different views of the performance. Video cameras with SDI outputs, such as Blackmagic Studio Camera or Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, are much better quality as they have better low light performance and use professional lenses. All video sources will re-sync to the switcher, even if they operate at different video standards. Everything just works so setup on location is easy and customers don't have to worry about technical problems.
The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 features 8 independent 12G-SDI inputs, with each input featuring its own dedicated standards converter. That means it’s possible to convert any 1080HD or 720HD input source to the video standard of the switcher.
The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 includes a 12G-SDI program output and 10 dedicated 12G-SDI aux outputs. The SDI program return is important because it is used to send tally, talkback and control information back to the cameras. The aux outputs drive stage monitors and master recorders. For camera monitoring, there is a dedicated 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 output for the multiview.
Fairlight Audio Mixer With a built in Fairlight audio mixer, ATEM Television Studio 4K8 makes it possible to do complex live sound mixing. The internal mixer features enough channels for all SDI inputs, as well as extra channels for the XLR, RCA and MADI inputs. Each input channel features the highest quality 6 band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, expander and noise gate as well as level and pan controls. The audio mixer is extremely powerful and it can be adjusted from the front panel using the dedicated audio mixer controls and LCD.
Multiview ATEM Television Studio 4K8 includes a professional multiview that lets customers see all video inputs, preview and program on a single SDI or HDMI monitor. Each camera view includes tally indicators so customers know when each source is on-air, plus each view has custom labels and audio meters. Customers can fully customize the multiview layout with up to 16 simultaneous views.
Streaming ATEM Television Studio 4K8 has a built in hardware streaming engine for live streaming to a global audience. That means customers can live stream to services such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitch in better video quality and without dropped frames. Streaming works using the Ethernet connection to the internet, or customers can connect a smartphone to use mobile data.
Recording to External USB Disks ATEM Television Studio 4K8 supports recording to external USB flash disks. With the built-in 2TB M.2 flash disk, customers can also record direct to internal network storage. The internal storage plus any external USB disks will be available to share over the local Ethernet network so other people can work on post production tasks such as editing, color correction and graphics preparation. HD recordings are in H.264 format (Ultra HD in H.265) with AAC audio for broadcast quality video and small file sizes. An exciting feature is append record, which allows customers to re-start recording onto the previous file so customers can deliver customers a single file.
Webcam Emulation Customers can use any video software with ATEM Television Studio 4K8 because the USB connection will emulate a webcam. That means customers can plug into a computer and use any video software that works with a webcam. That guarantees full compatibility with any video software and in full resolution 1080HD quality.
ATEM Software Control The ATEM Software Control app unlocks the hidden power of ATEM Television Studio 4K8 by allowing access to all the features in the switcher. ATEM Software Control features a visual switcher user interface with parameter palettes for making adjustments. The software lets customers live switch, mix audio, color correct in the cameras and manage media. Customers can also build and run complex macros from the software.
MADI If users are building a podcasting studio or customers need more microphones, then the ATEM Microphone Converter allows audio input expansion. It connects to the ATEM Television Studio using the MADI port, so there's no complex setup and customers can daisy chain units to add more inputs. Each converter has 4 analog inputs that are mic/line selectable and have phantom power. The design features amazing quality with an extremely low noise floor of -129dBV, a dynamic range of 131dB(A), low distortion of 0.002% and uniform tolerances across all channels. It even uses 8 separate ADCs on each input to collectively extend the dynamic range. Plus it has a fun HDMI monitoring output with scrolling audio waveforms.
