Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter

ATEM Microphone Converter adds four studio microphone or line inputs to the MADI port of ATEM Television Studio switchers. It offers combination XLR/TRS connectors, 48V phantom power, eight ADCs on each input for 131 dB(A) of dynamic range and an HDMI output with scrolling waveforms.

Four more microphones via MADI

The converter plugs into the MADI port of an ATEM Television Studio switcher with no complex setup, and additional units can be daisy chained for more inputs.

Gain set in the switcher

The converter has no analog preamplifier: the input is converted directly to 32-bit RAW data and gain is applied digitally in ±0.1 dB steps – without the clicks and noise of an analog gain stage.

−129 dBV noise floor

With no analog gain stage the noise floor stays equally low whatever gain you set in the switcher.

131 dB(A) dynamic range

Eight ADCs on each input work together, giving 131 dB(A) of range and just 0.002 % distortion.

Matched inputs

The eight-ADC-per-input design gives all channels very similar specifications and a stable noise floor – a microphone sounds the same on any input and even on another unit.

Digital preamplifier

A stable digital preamplifier working at the full 32-bit depth matches the level of each microphone, and the final levels are set on the audio mixer of the ATEM switcher.

Combination XLR/TRS inputs

Each of the four inputs takes an XLR or a jack cable. Mini switches select microphone or line level and turn on 48V phantom power for condenser microphones.

For microphones or an external mixer

The converter adds studio microphones or the output of an external audio mixer to the switcher. Connection is plug and play, with no complex setup.

Monitoring on HDMI

On a television or monitor the converter draws channel waveforms over the last 60 seconds, level meters, channel names and the state of the mic/line and phantom power switches. When daisy chained it shows more channels.

Connections

The left side has four combination inputs for microphone or line; the right side has the HDMI monitor output, MADI output and input, USB, Ethernet and the 12V power input.
