Blackmagic Design Announces DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder
PRESS RELEASE
April 11, 2013
Blackmagic Design announced DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder, two new capture and playback solutions featuring 3 Gb/s SDI and HDMI connections plus high speed PCIe technology. Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2013 booth at #SL218.
DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder are extremely compact PCIe cards that include PCIe shields for both regular PCIe slots and low profile slots commonly found on servers. DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder support all common SD/HD formats for incredible quality video and will be available for only 110 EUR.
DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder are two separate products, one for recording SDI and HDMI video and the other model for playing back SDI or HDMI video.
The DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder feature extremely tiny designs that are perfect for tasks that do not require both capture and playback in a single device. Their lower cost means the customer can choose to add recording or playback when needed. A good example is when monitoring using NLE software such as Apple Final Cut Pro X, Adobe® Premiere® Pro or Avid Media Composer when a customer just needs monitoring when editing, the DeckLink Mini Monitor would be the perfect choice. A customer who only needs simple recording for recording files from professional video sources can choose the DeckLink Mini Recorder for great quality at the lowest possible price.
DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder feature advanced high quality video technology allowing customers to install uncompressed and compressed capture and playback tasks at the highest 10 bit SD/HD quality wherever they need it.
With fast PCI Express transfer speeds, DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder can capture from decks, cameras and live video sources, and output to monitors, projectors, media servers and more. This is perfect for editing, compositing, graphics production and unlimited broadcast and post production situations where the highest quality video and true versatility are demanded.
DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder are fully compatible with Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer 6, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, Adobe® After Effects® CS6, Adobe® Photoshop® and more. Also included is Blackmagic Design’s Media Express software.
“DeckLink Mini Monitor and DeckLink Mini Recorder are perfect for a wide range of tasks because they are very low cost, but they are also extremely small, so they even fit into the low profile slots commonly found on server class computers,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “This means these exciting new models will allow systems integrators to build custom solutions for broadcast, or they can be used by customers for building systems that are perfect for a specific task such as editing with built in monitoring!”

Blackmagic Design Announces ATEM Production Studio 4K
PRESS RELEASE
April 11, 2013
Blackmagic Design announced ATEM Production Studio 4K, the world's first Ultra HD 4K production switcher with support for Ultra HD live production with 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K technology, is available in April for only 1520 EUR. ATEM Production Studio 4K will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2013 booth at #SL218.
The new ATEM Production Studio 4K lets customers connect up to 8 SD, HD or Ultra HD 4K video cameras, disk recorders and computers for live production. ATEM Production Studio 4K includes all the features expected from a professional switcher, including chroma key, transitions, media pool, downstream keyers, audio mixer, multi view and the world's first 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K video connections.
ATEM Production Studio 4K lets customers work and master to Ultra HD when used with the HyperDeck Studio Pro, which has Ultra HD and 6G-SDI support. This allows important events to be captured in the television format of the future and is perfect for live music events, sporting events, theatre productions, program production, conferences and more.
Ultra HD 4K is four times the resolution of regular high definition video for a massive 3840 x 2160 frame size. The new 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K video connections effortlessly handle Ultra HD 4K and customers can connect all cameras using a single cable. Even when operating in Ultra HD 4K every input includes a frame synchronizer allowing the use of non genlock sources such as computers. There is also a high definition down converted HD-SDI program output for when the switcher is operating in Ultra HD formats, but a regular HD program feed is required.
The ATEM Production Studio 4K features a strong and elegant machined aluminum front design. The front panel key pad lets customers select between auxiliary output sources and the small LCD screen provides instant feedback on the status of the auxiliary output. The aux switching is also a valuable tech monitoring tool for setting up and for live aux switching during production.
The ATEM Production Studio 4K includes the ATEM Software Control Panel for both Mac and Windows that provides complete control of the switcher from a laptop or desktop computer. This software provides full control of transitions, keyers, built in audio mixer and switcher settings. If customers prefer working with a traditional hardware control panel they can add either a ATEM 1 M/E Broadcast Panel or ATEM 2 M/E Broadcast Panel.
ATEM Production Studio 4K features built in multi view monitoring so customers can view all sources on a single SDI monitor or HDMI TV, which results in large cost and spacing savings when compared to using multiple small video monitors for viewing switcher sources. Because the multi view output is down converted to HD, even when operating in Ultra HD 4K, customers can still use a commonly available HD monitor or television. Multi view includes independent views for program, preview and 8 switcher sources.
ATEM Production Studio 4K includes the same high quality transitions found on regular high definition professional switchers, but now all these transitions operate in native Ultra HD 4K. Customers get the choice of mix, dip and wipe effects with full control of the transition type, pattern, length and other attributes. ATEM Production Studio 4K includes 2 built in media players that can store up to 20 full resolution Ultra HD 4K still frames with key and fill. Media players are ideal for lower third name straps, logos and more. ATEM Production Studio 4K also includes a Photoshop plug in that allows direct download graphics and titles from Photoshop to the switcher.
For seamless multi layering, ATEM Production Studio 4K includes 1 upstream keyer and 2 downstream keyers. The upstream keyer includes independent chroma, pattern, shaped and linear keying.
A built in audio mixer is also included that allows any switcher to use embedded HDMI and SDI audio from cameras as well as external audio from the analog XLR and HiFi audio inputs. Customers can use the mixer in direct input mixing or in audio follow video where the audio from each camera will automatically be cross faded while switching. The analog audio inputs are great for microphones, audio mixers or music players.
ATEM Production Studio 4K uses an aviation grade operating system that ensures mission critical reliability, unlike cheap computer based switchers that interrupt video if the computer crashes. With ATEM Production Studio 4K there will still be video output even if one of the control panels loses power or crashes, so the live event is protected from these problems. The front panel aux switching can be used to switch via the aux output until your computer is up and running again!
“With new Ultra HD televisions hitting the market, consumers are gearing up for an amazing transition into a cinema viewing experience in the home! We think this is an exciting revolution that is only just starting, however the primary problem is content creation,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design,. “Live production is the fastest way to generate massive amounts of Ultra HD content quickly and live events offer some of the most exciting sources for entertainment that will take advantage of the increased resolution of Ultra HD images. ATEM Production Studio 4K is perfect for this market and we think will become the center of Ultra HD live production.”

Blackmagic Design Announces World’s First 6G-SDI Products Are Shipping!
PRESS RELEASE
April 10, 2013
Blackmagic Design announced that it has adopted 6G-SDI video for multiple products, including some that are already shipping. This 6G-SDI has been included when these products were originally shipped with software now being released to add the 6G-SDI Ultra HD formats to these products.
In addition, at NAB 2013, Blackmagic Design is introducing multiple new products that support 6G-SDI connections, including the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K, ATEM Production Studio 4K live production studio, Blackmagic Audio Monitor and ATEM Studio Converter 2. All of these products will support Ultra HD video resolutions, meaning that Blackmagic Design has a complete workflow for both live production and post production that supports Ultra HD today.
6G-SDI is ideal for Ultra HD interconnects in the television industry because it allows Ultra HD video to be sent down a single common BNC type cable, is low cost and switches between SD, HD and Ultra HD formats. This means that any Ultra HD equipped product that supports 6G-SDI is able to operate in regular SD and HD video formats using the same BNC connections. Then when the customer wants to do work in Ultra HD, they simply need to switch the product over and it will now operate in Ultra HD and the SDI connections will switch up to 6G-SDI speeds allowing Ultra HD input and output.
6G-SDI is the only solution to allow Ultra HD products to be integrated into current SDI based television systems. 6G-SDI is also the lowest cost way to offer robust broadcast grade Ultra HD interconnects allowing lower cost Ultra HD products to be built.
Ultra HD is fully compatible with HD-SDI and SD-SDI equipment. 6G-SDI switches between 4 different television rates all on the same BNC connector. This means customers can purchase products with 6G-SDI running at 6 Gb/s speeds and then switch them to 270 Mb/s standard definition speeds, 1.5 Gb/s regular HD-SDI speeds or 3 Gb/s 3G-SDI speeds.
“When new video resolutions are introduced for the first time, initially customers are not really producing much content in that new format. However customers do like to have future proof hardware so we think 6G-SDI is the ideal solution because any 6G-SDI product can simply plug into regular SD and HD-SDI based systems,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “This means customers can buy our amazing new Ultra HD products and just use them for SD or HD work, but then are ready the moment they need to do an Ultra HD job and can switch over and use Ultra HD immediately without anything extra to purchase! With a full live production switcher supporting Ultra HD and under $2K, we think even people starting out in the television industry will be running Ultra HD live production and that is very exciting!”
Availability and Price
HyperDeck Studio Pro, UltraStudio 4K, DeckLink 4K Extreme and ATEM Production Studio 4K with 6G-SDI connections are shipping now from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide. Blackmagic Audio Monitor and ATEM Studio Converter with 6G-SDI will be shipping in May.
