Blackmagic Design has released the 4th public beta of their DaVinci Resolve 20 software, which brings additional enhancements including a new "flat" mode for keyframe easing. This means that when editing animations on the "Edit" or "Cut" page, you can more quickly ease-in and ease-out from a pause or standtill position. For example, if you're animating a bouncing ball, "flat" mode will ensure the ball naturally stops at the top of the bounce before it starts to fall again - mimicking real physics.

This update also adds the ability to display "clip handles" (clip edges) when using the curve editor. This allows you to use keyframes even in unused frames before and after the clip, making it easier to control the application of effects like opacity, position, zoom and more at the beginning or end of the clip. Another improvement when working with curves is the ability to right-click on a keyframe and select easing options. This will bring up an overlay window that allows for quick edits and avoids inadvertently shifting keyframes - thus speeding up the entire editing process.

For Studio version users, this update brings DaVinci RemoteMonitoring support for Intel and AMD Windows systems. A greater number of computers will now support live streaming of the DaVinci Resolve Studio preview to a remote monitor - making it easier to edit and color correct remotely.

In addition, this release improves support for animations of manually created or imported titles. DaVinci Resolve now calculates animation timing based on timeline position, length and word count - making animations of individual words or letters appear smoother and more natural.

Blackmagic Design released the 3rd public beta of their DaVinci Resolve 20 software. The new version brings a number of enhancements, including improved character styling and MultiText layer labeling. You can now assign editable names to individual MultiText layers, making them easier to identify when editing. In addition, character styling and text resizing is now correctly applied to all selected layers, greatly simplifying working with multiple text elements at once.

This update also brings more responsive editing of keyframes and curves in the curve editor. Large position changes - for example, when transforming or cropping - will no longer affect the visibility of keyframes. Audio synchronization for subclips has also been improved, so that the "in" and "out" points will now exactly match both the original high-res footage and the proxy versions.

Performance has been improved when playing timelines or clips with burnt in data (e.g. timecode, source file names or grading versions). This means smoother playback even when reviewing footage with this data.

For Studio users, the update brings more accurate subtitle animation for a wider range of languages. When working with languages with specific character spacing, such as Chinese or Thai, the word distribution will now be correctly detected and the animation of each word applied accurately.

Blackmagic today released Blackmagic Video Assist 3.18, an update that adds support for Blackmagic RAW recording from Panasonic UB10 cameras to the Video Assist 5" 12G HDR and Video Assist 7" 12G HDR models.

When recording Blackmagic RAW using Video Assist 12G HDR, you can also save camera settings to metadata. This means that white balance and exposure are encoded into a file that DaVinci Resolve can read. However, you can still overwrite these settings later when color correcting the RAW palette.
