Blackmagic Design Announces Blackmagic MultiDock

PRESS RELEASE

April 12, 2013

Blackmagic Design announced Blackmagic MultiDock, a new rack-based hard disk chassis with Thunderbolt technology that allows up to 4 hard disks or solid state disks to be inserted and mounted on any Thunderbolt based Mac or Windows computer. Blackmagic MultiDock will retail for approx. 455 EUR.

The Blackmagic MultiDock is a rack mount hard disk dock that allows independent disks to be inserted and mounted on the user’s computer. It also offers the option for multiple disks to be striped together to build an inexpensive Thunderbolt-based disk array.

With the introduction of Blackmagic Design’s HyperDeck SSD recorder/players as well as the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K that all use high speed solid state disks as their media, there has been a need for a broadcast strength rack mount dock that allows multiple disks to be managed and media to be used on computers.

Blackmagic MultiDock

The new Blackmagic MultiDock features a strong metal rack mount chassis and easy to access “cartridge” style design on the front of the unit that enables customers to work with large amounts of media more efficiently.

The built in Thunderbolt connection gives the Blackmagic MultiDock massive data transfer speeds. Each disk dock features an independent SATA interface chip, providing customers extremely fast access and data transfers.

The Blackmagic MultiDock is a fantastic solution to managing storage in a busy broadcast or post production environment. It’s fantastic when using disks independently or when striping them together as a large disk array,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “We think the Blackmagic MultiDock is going to solve the problem of managing disks and make editing even faster!”

Blackmagic MultiDock Key Features

  • 4 disk docking slots with attractive illuminated disk access indicators.

Blackmagic Design Announces SmartScope Duo

PRESS RELEASE

April 12, 2013

Blackmagic Design announced SmartScope Duo, a unique dual rack monitor with built in broadcast accurate waveform monitoring on large 8-inch LCD screens, allowing customers to have any combination of video and waveform monitoring, all in the single unit. SmartScope Duo is available now for approx. 755 EUR.

SmartScope Duo features two large 8 inch LCD screens in a compact rack mount design that is less than an inch thick. SmartScope Duo includes powerful image processing allowing each of the two screens to be independently selected between video monitoring and waveform monitoring. There are 7 types of waveform display that can be selected by the user, including waveform, vectorscope, RGB parade, YUV parade, histogram and an audio scope with 16 channels of SDI audio and audio phase meter.

SmartScope Duo looks identical to Blackmagic Design’s popular SmartView Duo dual video monitoring product, but includes the broadcast accurate waveform monitoring feature, so for the first time, customers can have waveform monitoring within video monitoring installations that fits perfectly into the design of the facility.

Blackmagic SmartScope Duo

SmartScope Duo is also a good solution for general video monitoring as it handles all SD, HD and 3G-SDI video standards, and all screens can be remotely adjusted via the customers Ethernet network. SmartScope Duo can be installed into equipment racks for local monitoring in post production, or for multi monitor video walls in master control rooms or for camera monitoring for production switchers!

One of the main difficulties when installing multiple monitors is attempting to match color settings on all monitors. SmartScope Duo eliminates this problem by connecting to an Ethernet network using the included Mac and Windows software to adjust all your monitors from one central location. This utility also lets customers choose between monitoring video or the various types of scope views.

SmartScope Duo includes full tally features so it is perfect for live broadcasters. Unlike a simple tally light, SmartScope Duo includes tally borders that can be independently displayed in red, green or blue. Each screen features an independent tally in the three colors so customers can signal to the user more information than a simple on air status. Tally is connected via a standard parallel pin connector on the rear of SmartScope Duo and provides full contact closure compatibility with all switcher and automation systems.

"In the past high quality broadcast accurate waveform monitoring has always been extremely high cost and physically large and cumbersome, so its been very difficult for customers to install waveform monitoring everywhere they need it, and even harder to install it in mobile situations such as fly away kits," said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. "We think SmartScope Duo is the perfect solution, as it builds broadcast accurate scopes into the monitor itself, so customers can simply choose between monitoring video, or one of the 7 scope types built into the product! It could not be easier to use!"

SmartScope Duo Key Features

  • 2 independent 8 inch LCD displays in a 3 rack unit size chassis, less than 1 inch thick.

  • SD/HD-SDI/3G-SDI input for each monitor, with re clocked loop outputs.

  • Ethernet input with loop output for connecting to computers for central adjustments.

  • Tally input for each monitor allowing red, green or blue tally indication.

  • Control software panel included free for Windows and Mac OS X.

  • Full 10 bit data path and image scaling for high quality displays.

  • Ideal for use in broadcast, post production and camera monitoring for switchers.

 Availability and Price
SmartScope Duo is available now for approx. 755 EUR ex. VAT.

Blackmagic Design Announces ATEM Production Studio 4K

PRESS RELEASE

April 11, 2013

Blackmagic Design announced ATEM Production Studio 4K, the world's first Ultra HD 4K production switcher with support for Ultra HD live production with 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K technology, is available in April for only 1520 EUR. ATEM Production Studio 4K will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2013 booth at #SL218.

Blackmagic ATEM Production Studio 4K

The new ATEM Production Studio 4K lets customers connect up to 8 SD, HD or Ultra HD 4K video cameras, disk recorders and computers for live production. ATEM Production Studio 4K includes all the features expected from a professional switcher, including chroma key, transitions, media pool, downstream keyers, audio mixer, multi view and the world's first 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K video connections.

ATEM Production Studio 4K lets customers work and master to Ultra HD when used with the HyperDeck Studio Pro, which has Ultra HD and 6G-SDI support. This allows important events to be captured in the television format of the future and is perfect for live music events, sporting events, theatre productions, program production, conferences and more.

Ultra HD 4K is four times the resolution of regular high definition video for a massive 3840 x 2160 frame size. The new 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K video connections effortlessly handle Ultra HD 4K and customers can connect all cameras using a single cable. Even when operating in Ultra HD 4K every input includes a frame synchronizer allowing the use of non genlock sources such as computers. There is also a high definition down converted HD-SDI program output for when the switcher is operating in Ultra HD formats, but a regular HD program feed is required.

The ATEM Production Studio 4K features a strong and elegant machined aluminum front design. The front panel key pad lets customers select between auxiliary output sources and the small LCD screen provides instant feedback on the status of the auxiliary output. The aux switching is also a valuable tech monitoring tool for setting up and for live aux switching during production.

The ATEM Production Studio 4K includes the ATEM Software Control Panel for both Mac and Windows that provides complete control of the switcher from a laptop or desktop computer. This software provides full control of transitions, keyers, built in audio mixer and switcher settings. If customers prefer working with a traditional hardware control panel they can add either a ATEM 1 M/E Broadcast Panel or ATEM 2 M/E Broadcast Panel.

ATEM Production Studio 4K features built in multi view monitoring so customers can view all sources on a single SDI monitor or HDMI TV, which results in large cost and spacing savings when compared to using multiple small video monitors for viewing switcher sources. Because the multi view output is down converted to HD, even when operating in Ultra HD 4K, customers can still use a commonly available HD monitor or television. Multi view includes independent views for program, preview and 8 switcher sources.

ATEM Production Studio 4K includes the same high quality transitions found on regular high definition professional switchers, but now all these transitions operate in native Ultra HD 4K. Customers get the choice of mix, dip and wipe effects with full control of the transition type, pattern, length and other attributes. ATEM Production Studio 4K includes 2 built in media players that can store up to 20 full resolution Ultra HD 4K still frames with key and fill. Media players are ideal for lower third name straps, logos and more. ATEM Production Studio 4K also includes a Photoshop plug in that allows direct download graphics and titles from Photoshop to the switcher.

For seamless multi layering, ATEM Production Studio 4K includes 1 upstream keyer and 2 downstream keyers. The upstream keyer includes independent chroma, pattern, shaped and linear keying.

A built in audio mixer is also included that allows any switcher to use embedded HDMI and SDI audio from cameras as well as external audio from the analog XLR and HiFi audio inputs. Customers can use the mixer in direct input mixing or in audio follow video where the audio from each camera will automatically be cross faded while switching. The analog audio inputs are great for microphones, audio mixers or music players.

ATEM Production Studio 4K uses an aviation grade operating system that ensures mission critical reliability, unlike cheap computer based switchers that interrupt video if the computer crashes. With ATEM Production Studio 4K there will still be video output even if one of the control panels loses power or crashes, so the live event is protected from these problems. The front panel aux switching can be used to switch via the aux output until your computer is up and running again!

With new Ultra HD televisions hitting the market, consumers are gearing up for an amazing transition into a cinema viewing experience in the home! We think this is an exciting revolution that is only just starting, however the primary problem is content creation,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design,. “Live production is the fastest way to generate massive amounts of Ultra HD content quickly and live events offer some of the most exciting sources for entertainment that will take advantage of the increased resolution of Ultra HD images. ATEM Production Studio 4K is perfect for this market and we think will become the center of Ultra HD live production.”
