Tilta Adapter Ring for Tilta Mirage Matte Box (77mm)

The Tilta 77 mm adapter ring screws into the filter thread of a photo lens and the Tilta Mirage matte box clamps straight onto it — the ring's outer diameter is 95 mm, exactly what the Mirage clamp takes. Lenses of different diameters are brought to one standard and the matte box moves between them without tools. The ring is aluminum alloy, lightweight and black.

The Tilta 77 mm adapter ring is the link between a photo lens and the Tilta Mirage matte box. The Mirage clamps onto a 95 mm diameter, the size of classic cine lenses; photo and mirrorless lenses have a smaller front thread, and that is exactly what the ring makes up for. The first-generation ring series covers 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77, 82, 85, 86 and 95 mm threads.

Between the lens and the matte box

The ring screws into the 77 mm filter thread on the lens and stays there — the Mirage matte box then goes onto its 95 mm outer diameter and is secured with the clamp. Changing lenses is a matter of releasing the clamp once: every lens has its own ring and the matte box simply moves between them. It is the same ring that comes in the Mirage base kit for 67, 72, 77 and 82 mm — this one adds 77 mm to the series.

Front thread for a circular filter

The front of the ring is threaded, so a circular filter or the lens's original cap screws on without removing the ring. It is made of aluminum alloy with a black finish, is light and puts no load on the matte box at the lens. Anyone shooting on wide-angle lenses who does not need the front thread can go for the second-generation (V2) rings, which leave it out to reduce the risk of vignetting.

The Tilta Mirage matte box

Mirage is a lightweight matte box for 95 mm circular filters: it mounts to the lens with an adapter ring matching the filter thread, filters sit in stackable trays and an optional wireless motor turns the VND module. The parts of the Mirage family combine — rings, trays, VND, 15 mm rod support and hood all belong to the same matte box, including this one.
