Tilta Mirage VND Kit

The Tilta MB-T16-VND module is a 95 mm variable ND filter tray for the Mirage matte box: 1 to 9 stops (ND 0.3–2.7) in a single piece of glass, with hard stops against over-rotation and PL + CPL technology that keeps colors accurate even at maximum density. Developed with top-tier optical manufacturers, it weighs 130 g in its lightest configuration, and with the optional motor the density changes wirelessly. A soft case is included.

The Tilta 95mm Variable ND for Mirage is a variable ND module that slides into the Mirage matte box like any other tray — except that instead of a fixed filter it carries a rotating glass with an ND 0.3–2.7 range. Exposure is matched smoothly without a filter change when the light shifts mid-shot, and with a motor from a distance as well.

Nine stops in one glass, accurate colors

The ND 0.3 to 2.7 range covers most situations with a single filter: from a light cut indoors to full sun at an open aperture. Hard stops guard the end positions so the filter never rotates into a cross-pattern shadow, and PL + CPL technology with a larger gap between the elements keeps colors accurate across the whole range. The module was developed with top-tier optical manufacturers and weighs 130 g in its lightest configuration.

Control on the tray and from a distance

Density is changed with the geared ring on the top edge of the module, or wirelessly: the Mirage wireless motor or the Nucleus Nano motor via its adapter mounts on the module and the ND is tuned from the controller, even with the camera on a gimbal or crane. For wide lenses the recommended range is ND 0.3–2.1, ND 2.1–2.7 from 35 mm upwards — otherwise vignetting or an X-pattern can appear. Mounted normally the module does not polarize; reversed it can, but then a motor can no longer be fitted.

The Tilta Mirage matte box

Mirage is a lightweight matte box for 95 mm circular filters: it mounts to the lens with an adapter ring matching the filter thread, filters sit in stackable trays and an optional wireless motor turns the VND module. The parts of the Mirage family combine — rings, trays, VND, 15 mm rod support and hood all belong to the same matte box, including this one.
