82mm Adapter Ring for Tilta Mirage V2

The Tilta MB-T16-82V2 adapter ring screws into the 82 mm filter thread of a photo lens and the Mirage matte box clamps straight onto it. The 95 mm outer diameter is the same as on cine lenses, so one matte box moves between lenses with nothing more than a change of ring. The V2 version has no front filter thread — on wide-angle lenses that helps limit vignetting.

The Tilta 82mm Adapter Ring for Mirage V2 is an aluminum alloy adapter ring for the Tilta Mirage matte box. The V2 range covers threads from 55 to 82 mm and differs from the original rings in having no filter thread at the front: the profile is lower and the edge of the ring stays out of the frame on a wide-angle lens.

Clamps into the Mirage matte box

Mirage clamps onto lenses with a 95 mm front diameter. A photo lens has no such diameter, so this ring goes between it and the matte box: its 82 mm thread screws into the lens like a filter, and the Mirage clamp grips its 95 mm outer body. Switching lenses then comes down to one ring on each of them — the matte box, filter cartridges and support stay assembled.

No front thread, for less vignetting

The original Mirage rings carry a second filter thread at the front so a circular filter can be screwed on ahead of the matte box. The V2 version drops it: the ring edge is lower and intrudes less into the corners of the image on wide-angle lenses. A screw-on circular filter will not fit a V2 — on Mirage, filters go into the cartridges behind the ring anyway. The ring is aluminum alloy, its diameter is engraved on the body, and it comes on its own, without the matte box.

Mirage is a lightweight matte box for 95 mm circular filters: it mounts to the lens with an adapter ring matching the filter thread, filters sit in stackable cartridges and an optional wireless motor turns the VND module. The parts of the Mirage family combine — rings, cartridges, VND, 15 mm rod support and hood all belong to the same matte box, including this one.
