XD motors and 30 fps
Four XD linear motors keep up with 30 fps bursts and 4K/120p recording, quietly and with modest power draw.

The redesigned optics — five aspherical elements, two of them XA — draw sharply from wide open. Compared with the first generation it sheds 20 % of the weight and 16 mm of length.

The constant aperture holds exposure as you zoom, so shutter and ISO can stay put during a take. The lens also suppresses focus breathing and supports its in-body compensation on Alpha cameras.

Two ED and two Super ED elements together with the floating focus mechanism keep chromatic aberration and astigmatism down. Nano AR Coating II cuts flare and lifts contrast.
At 24 mm it focuses from 21 cm, at 70 mm from 30 cm, with up to 0.32× magnification. The detail is yours without switching lenses.

Zoom ring resistance switches between Tight and Smooth, the aperture can be locked, and Linear Response MF makes manual focus predictable.
The build is dust and moisture resistant, and the front element carries a fluorine coating against water and grease.
A fifth lighter and 16 mm shorter than the first G Master — a difference you feel after a full day.
The Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II is a compact lens with a precision-engineered design and optics that allow you to capture extremely sharp images with rich texture, even at wide-open aperture. The completely redesigned optical system now features five aspherical elements, including two XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements, as well as two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and the same number of Super ED elements. Together with a new floating focus mechanism, this new version of the lens offers more effective suppression of chromatic aberrations, astigmatism, and other distortions, delivering outstanding resolution across the entire image plane and at all zoom and aperture settings!
Thanks to highly precise manufacturing and precision optics, it offers perfect color reproduction and excellent image quality even outside the depth of field. Sony’s Nano AR Coating II minimizes flare and improves image sharpness and contrast. Excellent image quality is a given when shooting close-ups, with a minimum focusing distance of 21 cm (at 24 mm focal length) or 30 cm (at 70 mm), and a maximum magnification of 0.32x.
The lens is equipped with powerful, high-speed XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors for precise, fast, and quiet control of the lens mechanics, minimizing both vibration and power consumption. The lens’s AF electronics handle continuous shooting at up to 30 fps and high-speed 4Kp120 video recording, even at full aperture, for the sharpest possible capture of fast-moving subjects. A constant f/2.8 aperture across the entire zoom range ensures stable exposure even when changing the focal length. This is particularly advantageous when shooting video: both the shutter speed and ISO settings can remain constant during recording. Advanced lens technology also reduces breathing and other dynamic artifacts in the optical system when the focal length changes during recording. The lens also supports additional breathing compensation on compatible Sony Alpha series cameras.
The lens is equipped with a range of ergonomic features, including rings for manual zoom and focus adjustment, with the option to configure the zoom ring’s response (Tight/Smooth) or use the aperture lock function. During manual focusing, the Linear Response MF mode ensures a very smooth and precise response to ring movement. The lens weighs just 695 g, which is 20% less than the original 24-70 mm F2.8 G Master model; its length has also been reduced by 16 mm. The lens is equipped with dust- and moisture-resistant seals; the front element is additionally protected by a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants.
