Waveform, vectorscope, RGB parade and histogram can be displayed directly on the monitor without a separate measuring instrument – full screen, as a transparent overlay on the picture or with a small picture in picture view in the corner. Ideal for checking camera exposure and signal levels against broadcast standards.

Audio from SDI and HDMI

The 5-inch model records audio embedded in the signal – up to 16 channels from SDI and up to 8 channels from HDMI – at 48 kHz and 24 bit. For monitoring it has a 3.5 mm headphone output and a built in speaker for clip playback.

Two NP-F batteries and 12 V power

The rear has two slots for Sony NP-F (L-Series) batteries. Batteries can be changed one at a time without interrupting recording. In the studio the monitor runs from the included 12 V power supply; batteries are not included, an NP-F battery USB charger is.

Blackmagic Video Assist 5″ 3G is a camera monitor, video recorder and tool for measuring the video signal. It adds a larger viewfinder and recording to high-quality codecs to any camera with an SDI or HDMI output. It supports standard formats up to 1080p60, scopes, focus assist, a tally light and 3D LUT correction.

The large touchscreen makes monitoring, recording, playback, signal measurement and focusing easy. Timecode, transport controls, audio meters and histogram, false color and 3D LUTs are available; LUTs can be applied directly into the files or non-destructively for monitoring only.

The integrated recorder uses common UHS-I SD cards with the ExFAT and HFS+ file systems. Video Assist is a practical addition to cameras with small or dim displays and can extend older models with the Apple ProRes and Avid DNx recording formats.

Touch control gives quick access to playback, a mini timeline and information on timecode, video standard or audio levels.
