Blackmagic Design announced that DeckLink, UltraStudio and Intensity desktop video products will support the release of Avid Media Composer 7.

Avid Media Composer 7 features accelerated and simplified file based workflows including new background processing and automation tools which enable editors to ingest 2K and 4K media and deliver content directly to HD without needing to transcode and resize.

With the enhanced high resolution workflows, Media Composer 7 will work seamlessly with a range of Blackmagic Design products, including DeckLink, UltraStudio and Intensity for capture and playback in the highest quality compressed and uncompressed formats. The rack mount UltraStudio 4K and the DeckLink 4K Extreme PCIe card will provide customers the flexibility to work with virtually any media format in Media Composer 7 depending on their workflow needs.

Press Release

Organizers of DreamHack Summer 2013, the world's largest digital festival and LAN eSports competition, are preparing to broadcast and stream over 512 hours of HD programming with the help of Blackmagic Design’s ATEM Production Switcher range and Teranex 2D Processors.

Over the course of four days more than 10,000 amateur and professional gamers will descend upon Jönköping, Sweden for the eSport spring season finals. The festival will also serve up a whole program of digital arts content ranging from film competitions and music making and composition (DreamHack Kreativ) through to guest speakers and live performances. In all more than 20,000 visitors are expected this year.

DreamHacks technical team will broadcast key moments on Swedish Television (SVT), twitch.tv and DreamHack TV using eight purpose built flight pack solutions. The two largest are based around Blackmagic’s ATEM 2 M/E Production Switcher with ATEM 2 M/E Broadcast Panel and include a Compact Videohub router, ATEM Studio Converter, Teranex 2D Processor, HyperDeck Studio Pro SSD broadcast deck, SmartView Duo monitors and CasparCG with a DeckLink HD Extreme 4K capture and playback card. Organizers also switched the entire acquisition chain of the two largest productions to HD SDI cameras.

Blackmagic Design ATEM Studio Converter

Six scaled flight packs feature either the ATEM 1 M/E Production Switcher with ATEM 1 M/E Broadcast Panel and a Studio Videohub router or Blackmagic’s ATEM Television Studio. Each has been equipped to stream live via third party software and where an ATEM Television Studio isn’t present a H.264 Pro Recorder has been added for encoding.

Sweden’s state broadcaster will for the first time be providing live coverage of the DreamHack Open on SVT2 with qualifiers for the 2013 World Series beginning at DreamHack Summer, followed by two subsequent events in Valencia and Bucharest before the finals at DreamHack Winter 2013.

eSport tournaments are growing in popularity and we've had to adapt to the fact our audiences are no longer just online. We now have to incorporate timecode, language and custom overlays that cater to the specific requirements of a broadcaster,” says Jonas Bengtson, technical director for DreamHack. “Blackmagic’s ATEM mixer is flexible enough to allow us to build our production in layers. We can for example embed one channel of graphics featuring functional overlays only for a public broadcaster and then overlay advertising in sync on the other DSK row for broadcasters where our agreements permit us to show it.”

He adds: “We have always considered Blackmagic Design our first and preferred solution for everything that we do. Building a broadcast solution around the ATEM line has meant that we’ve been able to cost effectively expand our production capabilities inline with the festivals growth.”
