A true flagship in every sense of the word, the Sony Alpha 1 is the only camera that can do it all. This full-frame mirrorless camera, built without compromise, offers high-resolution stills, impressive 8K video recording, speed and sensitivity, and connectivity for the most demanding professional workflows.
At the heart of the Alpha 1 (or a1 Alpha) is a newly designed 50.1MP full-frame Exmor RS BSI CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR processor. The combination of an efficient stacked sensor design with optimized processing means that the a1 can shoot 30 frames per second in full resolution, record video in 8K 30p and 4K 120p 10-bit, and still offers a versatile sensitivity range up to ISO 102400 for low-light shooting. The sensor design also includes a 759-point fast hybrid autofocus system that offers advanced subject tracking and real-time eye autofocus on people and animals, even including a special mode for birds.
Despite its high-resolution sensor, the a1 is a strong contender in the video arena, offering 8K and 4K recording resolutions along with full pixel readout, internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling, and 16-bit raw output via full-size HDMI. No recording limit allows for longer takes, and in line with professional cameras, the a1 includes S-Cinetone support for smooth skin tone rendering along with well-controlled highlights and subtle colors.
Physically, the a1 (1-inch) model has a familiar shape, but inside it utilizes the best technologies of the Alpha series with several significant improvements, including a 9.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, which features a refresh rate of 240 frames per second for smooth motion rendering and significantly reduced light leakage during continuous shooting. The camera’s shutter mechanism has also been redesigned, now offering full-range flash synchronization up to a speed of 1/400 s, and when using the silent electronic shutter, flash synchronization is even supported up to a speed of 1/200 s. The rear of the camera features a 3.0" tilting touchscreen LCD, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity with 2x2 MIMO support offer the ability for wireless remote control and file transfer. In addition, the a1 features two memory card slots, both of which support CFexpress Type A or SD UHS-II memory cards for flexible and fast file storage.
It is compatible with the Wise 128GB SDXC UHS-II Memory Card, SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I 64GB 170MB/s, Wise 64GB SDXC UHS-II Memory Card, and many others.
The Sony Alpha 1 (ILCE-1/B) represents the pinnacle of full-frame mirrorless cameras, combining an extreme resolution of 50.1 MP with a readout speed that enables 8K 30p video and 30 fps shooting. To achieve these specifications, the camera requires specific accessories, particularly CFexpress Type A memory cards to handle the high data throughput, G Master series lenses capable of rendering the sensor’s high resolution, and a power system based on NP-FZ100 batteries.
