The Saramonic WiTalk9 WT8S is a wireless full-duplex intercom for 8 people. The kit contains one master and 7 remote headsets (single-ear), two batteries per headset and a charging dock for 10 batteries. Everyone talks at once without a hub at distances of up to 500 m, and the three-microphone ClearTalk array suppresses background noise.

Nine people hub-free, up to 30 cascaded

The kit works straight out of the case and needs no base station. Up to eight remote headsets connect to the master headset, so the team can grow to nine people by adding remote headsets. With the LINK cable (sold separately), up to four kits cascade for 30 users, and for larger productions the headsets also connect to the WiTalk BASE.

Talk across locations

The master headset connects to a phone or computer wirelessly or with the LINK cable, linking the team with colleagues elsewhere via Zoom, Teams or a phone call. A single headset is enough — the whole team hears the call through it. Any remote headset can also be connected by cable.

Two antennas, 500 metres of range

Each headset has both an internal and an external antenna and holds a stable link up to 500 m, even where the air is full of other signals. Transmission in the DECT 1.9 GHz band is encrypted, so it is secure and free of interference from other frequencies. Latency stays at or below 83 ms.

ClearTalk: three microphones, 360°

A three-microphone array with a proprietary noise cancellation algorithm picks up the voice and suppresses ambient noise from every direction, with a cancellation depth of 50 dB. Weak or Strong mode is switched with the ENC button depending on how loud the set is. Against wind, the algorithm is helped by the foam windscreen on the microphone.

A full shooting day

The master headset runs up to 10 hours with four remote headsets and 9 hours with eight, and the remote headsets up to 15 hours. The kit includes two replaceable batteries per headset and a charging dock, so batteries are swapped on the move. Headsets also charge over USB-C, even while in use; a full charge takes up to 3.5 hours.

Rain and wind

IPX5 protection withstands rain, and the headset copes with level 3 wind — an outdoor shoot need not stop for a shower.

Two types of ear cushion

Over-ear cooling-gel ear cushions isolate noise better; breathable on-ear foam cushions suit long wear in the heat. Both are included and swap quickly.

Intelligible even at 130 dB

Automatic gain control (AGC) and a high-volume speaker keep the conversation intelligible in environments as loud as 130 dB SPL — by the stage, in a stadium or on a busy set.

Mute, broadcast and push-to-talk

Flip the microphone boom up to mute. One press on the master headset starts Broadcast, muting all remote headsets so the whole team gets the instruction; a remote headset has push-to-talk for a private conversation. Monitoring through the LINK port spares the sound recordist a second pair of headphones.

Saramonic app

The master headset connects to the app wirelessly. Before the shoot it shows the battery and connection status of every headset; during it you can mute anyone or start a one-on-one talk. Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) based on the phone’s GPS location lets the system work anywhere in the world, and the app also updates the firmware.
