The Sony FE 100–400 mm F5.6–8 OSS is a full-frame super telephoto lens for photographing birds, safaris, nature, animals, sports, cities and airplanes. At 164.5 mm long it weighs just 654 g, has OSS optical stabilisation and on an APS-C body gives an angle of view equivalent to 150–600 mm. At 400 mm it focuses from 0.86 m.

Controls right on the barrel

The focus hold button locks the focused distance and can also be assigned another function. Next to it sit the AF/MF switch with a focus range limiter (∞–3 m or full range) and the optical stabilisation switch. The zoom lock keeps the lens retracted so it does not extend while you carry it.

On APS-C, like a 150–600 mm

On APS-C cameras such as the α6700, the lens gives the angle of view of a 150–600 mm focal length, narrowing to 4°10′ at the long end. With a small body the combination still stays light in the hand.

0.41× magnification at the long end

At 400 mm the lens focuses from just 0.86 m and reaches 0.41× magnification. A flower, an insect or the pattern of a feather fills much of the frame even without a macro lens.

Stabilisation works with the body

Optical SteadyShot dampens hand shake and, with compatible Alpha bodies, works together with in-camera stabilisation.

Dust and moisture resistant

The construction resists dust and moisture, so the lens holds up outdoors even in changeable weather.

Nine blades, circular aperture

The nine-blade circular aperture keeps the defocused background soft and points of light round.

SEL14TC and SEL20TC teleconverters

The lens is compatible with the 1.4× and 2.0× teleconverters for when you need to reach even further.
