Roland VC-1-SC

Roland’s new video converters address the demand for high-quality, lossless video and audio converters for live/post production as well as installed systems. 

The VC-1-SC is a scan converter that bridges the analogue and digital worlds. It accepts SDI, HDMI, RGB/component and composite video and converts them to SDI and HDMI at the required resolution, frame rate and aspect ratio, including frame synchronisation to a reference.

Analogue and digital inputs

One side carries RGB/component (HD DB-15), HDMI, composite video and analogue stereo audio on RCA, so a computer, an older camera and a modern HDMI source can all connect.

SDI, HDMI and reference

Two SDI outputs (one shared with the SDI input), an HDMI output and a reference input for black burst, bi-level and tri-level. Over USB the converter is controlled by the VC-1 RCS app.

Scaler and frame synchroniser

Resolution conversion offers Full, LetterBox, Crop and Dot-by-Dot modes, frame rate conversion uses frame skip/repeat. Frame sync engages when a reference signal is detected.

No artefacts, even over long runs

The VC-1 series keeps the character of the original signal with no interlacing artefacts or other conversion errors. An on-board re-clocker compensates for SDI attenuation over long distances, and level A and B 3G-SDI support lets you connect a wide range of sources.

PC formats

HDMI and RGB inputs accept VESA resolutions from 640 × 480 up to 1920 × 1200.

Audio embedding

Selectable embedding or de-embedding of two-channel audio to and from video.

HDCP

Converts and passes HDCP signals, with the exception of the SDI output.

The VC-1 series won TV Technology’s STAR Award at NAB 2013.

The VC-1 Video Converter series provides uncompromising picture quality by maintaining the video characteristics of the original signal. There are no interlacing artifacts or other conversion or signal errors sometimes found with other video converters. The VC-1 series also features an on-board re-clocker to compensate for attenuation of SDI signals carried over long distances. The VC-1 series also supports both level A and B 3G-SDI, letting you connect a variety of higher quality SDI sources. The VC-1-SC also enables input from analog sources such as RGB and component along with built-in scaler.

The VC-1 series is HDCP compliant allowing you to convert or pass-through HDCP signals with the exception of any SDI output. Selectable audio embedding or de-embedding lets you route different audio sources to or from video devices.
