At the IBC show in Amsterdam this year, several interesting HD products from Sony were announced.

Sony PMW-EX1

The new Sony PMW-EX1

one professional handycam camera represents the new XDCAM EX™ series of cameras that record audio/video on the new Sony SxS storage media. It is a full HD camera with a new ½-inch CMOS chip that is capable of recording 1920 x 1080 (1080i) as well as 1280 x 720 (720p) HD video to the SxS™PRO memory card. The PMW-EX1 has two memory card slots, which are currently available in 8GB (with an approximate recording capacity of 35min) and 16GB (with an approximate recording capacity of 70min). When fitted with two 16GB SxS™PRO cards, up to 140 minutes of HD recording is possible.

Sony HVR-HD1000

Another new addition is the new Sony HVR-HD1000

HDV shoulder camcorder and is designed for a wider range of uses e.g. weddings, corporate events, cultural events or local TV. The camera has a 1/2.9-inch ClearVid™ CMOS sensor with pixels rotated 45 degrees for higher resolution and sensitivity. The camera lens has a 10x zoom, Super SteadyShot™ optical stabilizer and an electronic viewfinder (EVF).

A new feature is the "Smooth Slow Rec" function, which is capable of recording an image at 200 frames per second for smooth slow-motion footage. Video recording is on a conventional tape, which can record roughly 60 minutes of HDV footage. The camera is able to operate for approximately 10 hours on a conventional NP-F970 battery. Audio/video interfaces include HDMI, i.LINK, USB and Memory Stick Duo™ slot.

Sony GV-HD700

The new HDV video walkman Sony GV-HD700

includes a 7" inch color LCD display with 16:9 aspect ratio and is designed for viewing and reviewing recorded material (video, photo) directly on the set and is capable of displaying 100% of the recorded frame on tape. The Sony GV-700 can record HDV and DV material from an external source to replace a backup recorder. A power supply, wireless remote control, component cable and AV multi-cable (no S-Video) are included. For added flexibility, the GV-700 can also work with InfoLITHIUM® L and M series batteries.

Additionally, several new HD cameras with interchangeable lenses have also been announced, the detailed specifications of which have not yet been given.

The products should be available by the end of this year and we will post individual prices on our website.
