The Neumann KM 185 is a premium small-diaphragm condenser microphone featuring a supercardioid polar pattern for exceptional off-axis rejection and precise sound capture. Part of Neumann’s acclaimed 180 Series, it delivers natural, uncolored audio reproduction, transformerless circuitry, and reliable performance for studio recording, broadcasting, live sound, and professional production environments.
The Neumann KM 185 is a high-quality small-diaphragm condenser microphone from the renowned 180 Series, designed to meet the demands of professional studios, broadcasters, and live sound engineers. Featuring a supercardioid polar pattern, the KM 185 provides excellent isolation from surrounding sound sources, making it ideal for applications where precise pickup and superior rejection of ambient noise are essential.
Based on the highly successful KM 184 design, the KM 185 utilizes a pressure-gradient transducer with an exceptionally balanced frequency response both on and off axis. This ensures natural, transparent sound reproduction without unwanted coloration, even when recording sources at wider pickup angles. Its supercardioid pattern minimizes side and rear sound pickup by approximately 10 dB, with the point of lowest sensitivity positioned at 120°, making it highly effective in challenging acoustic environments.
The KM 185 incorporates Neumann’s advanced transformerless circuitry, delivering outstanding technical performance, low distortion, and a wide dynamic range. Powered by standard 48V phantom power, the microphone works seamlessly with professional audio interfaces, mixers, and even unbalanced recording devices such as DAT and flash recorders.
Its compact form factor makes it particularly suitable for stereo recording techniques, overhead drum applications, broadcast use, television production, acoustic instruments, and location recording. As a successor to the legendary KM 83 and KM 84 microphone lineage, the KM 185 continues Neumann’s tradition of precision engineering and exceptional sound quality.
