The Neumann KM 183 Stereo Set is a matched pair of premium small-diaphragm condenser microphones featuring an omnidirectional polar pattern. Based on the renowned KM 184 platform, the KM 183 delivers natural, transparent sound reproduction with exceptional detail and low distortion, making it an ideal choice for AB stereo recording, piano, choir, organ, orchestral, and broadcast applications.
The Neumann KM 183 Stereo Set combines two high-performance KM 183 omnidirectional condenser microphones in a professional stereo recording package. As part of Neumann's acclaimed Series 180, the KM 183 builds on the worldwide success of the KM 184 and provides the same outstanding engineering quality in an omnidirectional configuration optimized for natural and spacious sound capture.
Designed as a pressure transducer, the KM 183 exhibits a 7 dB presence rise at 10 kHz when measured in a free field, while maintaining a remarkably flat frequency response in diffuse-field environments. This unique characteristic results in highly accurate ambient reproduction, making the microphone particularly suitable for stereo recording techniques that require realistic room capture and extended low-frequency performance.
The slim and unobtrusive design allows easy positioning in virtually any recording scenario, from classical music and choir recordings to broadcast and television production. The omnidirectional pickup pattern captures sound uniformly from all directions, delivering a spacious, open soundstage with excellent depth and realism.
Like all microphones in the Series 180 range, the KM 183 features Neumann's transformerless output circuitry, providing exceptionally low distortion, fast transient response, high dynamic range, and reliable operation. The microphone is powered via standard 48 V phantom power and can also be connected to unbalanced recording devices such as portable DAT and flash recorders without compromising performance.
As the successor to the legendary KM 83 microphones, the KM 183 Stereo Set offers professional recording engineers, musicians, and broadcasters an elegant solution for high-quality stereo recording applications.
