1,089 conversions in 10-bit quality

Up, down and cross conversions and standards conversion between SD, HD and Ultra HD include cadence detection, removal and insertion, optical quality scaling and aspect ratio conversion. Conversions retain timecode, ancillary data including closed captions, 16 audio channels with remapping and up to 1 second of delay and perfect frame synchronization, so the video is immediately ready for editing or broadcast.

PixelMotion and cadence detection

Patented PixelMotion de-interlacing creates perfect progressive frames by adjusting the aperture on a pixel-by-pixel basis and preserving vertical resolution. The converter detects and removes 3:2 cadence even in edited material with broken cadence, so film content looks clean.

Converting film to 29.97 fps video creates 3:2 pulldown, which makes 24 fps streaming files appear to stutter. Teranex Express detects and removes it even when the cadence has been broken by editing, for a clean, film-like result.

Optical quality scaling

Scaling algorithms simulate an optical zoom, while sub-pixel processing and multi-directional diagonal filters eliminate jaggies. A wide range of aspect ratio options is available for conversions between NTSC and PAL, 720 and 1080 HD and Ultra HD.

12G-SDI and Quad HD Split

Multi-rate 12G-SDI works up to 2160p60 and switches automatically to 6G, 3G, HD and SD, keeping compatibility with existing equipment. Ultra HD can be output as Quad HD Split (SMPTE 435-1) on four SDI outputs, and input B is used for Dual Link. The SFP socket accepts an optional optical module.

Control on the panel or from a computer

Illuminated buttons, status LEDs and an LCD with menus give access to color correction, proc amp and aspect ratio right on the unit. The Teranex Setup application for Mac and Windows controls source and output selection, color correction, aspect ratio and audio mapping remotely over Ethernet, and large broadcasters use it to manage multiple converters.

Connections

The rear has the IEC power connector, USB, Ethernet, the reference input, 12G-SDI input A with loop and output, 6G-SDI input B with loop and output and the socket for an optional optical module.

About the Teranex Express converter

Teranex Express is a versatile professional standards converter with patented PixelMotion de-interlacing and an exceptionally wide set of conversions between SD, HD, 2K and Ultra HD formats.

It combines up, down and cross conversion with motion processing, noise reduction, aspect ratio and frame rate conversion in a single unit.

The 12G-SDI interface handles Ultra HD up to 2160p60 while supporting regular 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI. Dual Link and Quad HD Split are also available for compatibility with older equipment.

The converter carries 16 channels of embedded audio, timecode and captions, has an optical interface and a compact 1RU design suited to studio racks.
