Monitoring right at the rack

The built-in 2.2″ LCD display, spin knob and buttons are used to select sources and destinations and to check video, audio, timecode and settings. The front panel has a speaker and a 6.35 mm headphone output: a single press of the button turns the speaker on momentarily, a double press toggles it on or off and press and hold sets the volume with the spin knob.

A redundant network without compromise

Two 100G QSFP28 ports carry identical SMPTE-2110 streams over separate network paths according to SMPTE 2022-7. A separate 1G RJ45 port keeps NMOS control, configuration and updates apart from the media network; USB-C is used for local configuration. Each video stream carries 16 channels of embedded audio.

Any standard to any standard

Each of the eight channels converts SD, HD or Ultra HD video to another standard independently of the others – including 1080p47.95/48, 2160p47.95/48 and SD in both NTSC and PAL. Video is 10-bit 4:2:2 in the Rec. 709 or Rec. 2020 color space.

Conversion and protection for live operation

Blackmagic UpDownCross 100G is a powerful eight-channel standards converter with native SMPTE-2110 connections via 100G Ethernet. It converts up to eight separate channels of SD, HD and Ultra HD video to any other standard simultaneously. The professional 1U design has very quiet front-to-back cooling, redundant 100G Ethernet for full SMPTE 2022-7 compliance, dual redundant AC power supplies and a separate NMOS control port.

The SMPTE-2110 standard defines the transport, synchronization and description of 10-bit video, audio and ancillary data over managed IP broadcast networks. The converter works with the PTP clock, and SMPTE 2022-7 redundancy sends two identical copies of video and audio over separate paths. Incoming RTP packets are compared by sequence number and the one that arrives first is used – with no dropped frames or audio glitches.
