The Top Flag for the Tilta Mirage Pro Matte Box is a removable carbon-fibre flag that cuts light falling onto the front element from above. Unlike an ordinary flat panel it has side wings angled out by 55°, so it covers a considerably wider angle.
The flag is more than a panel: it has two side wings angled out by 55° that open as far as you need. That shades light arriving obliquely from the front as well, which a flat flag cannot handle. The whole thing is carbon fibre, so the rig barely feels it.
It attaches on 1/4″–20 threads with locating pins, so the flag seats in the same position every time and needs no eyeballing. It comes off without tools; when you leave it off, the free threads on top of the matte box remain for a monitor, a transmitter or a mount.
Alongside the top flag Tilta also makes a left (MB-T17-LSF), a right (MB-T17-RSF) and a bottom flag (MB-T17-BSF). Together they shade light from all four sides.
