Tilta Rubber Donut Kit for Tilta Mirage Pro Matte Box

The Tilta MB-T17-RDK Rubber Donut Kit fills the gap between the lens and the back of the Mirage Pro matte box so that no side light gets in. Three sizes cover front diameters from 80 to 136 mm, including lenses no clamp-on adapter fits exactly. A donut is also the condition for wide lenses: with one, the Mirage Pro handles focal lengths from 16 mm.

The Rubber Donut Kit for the Tilta Mirage Pro Matte Box is three flexible rings that fit onto the back of the matte box body. The lens passes through and the rubber closes around it — the gap that would otherwise let side light in disappears.

Three sizes for 80 to 136 mm

The kit contains donuts for front diameters of 80 to 95 mm, 95 to 114 mm and 114 to 136 mm. That covers lenses with non-standard diameters, on which a rigid clamp-on adapter cannot be used. The rubber conforms to the lens, so no bright slit is left between it and the matte box for outside light to come through.

The condition for wide lenses

The Mirage Pro opening is deliberately wide and the matte box sits shallow — so with a rubber donut it handles wide lenses from 16 mm without vignetting the corners. The donut is also part of the assembly in which the rod and swing-away adapters allow ±25° of tilt and ±15 mm of height adjustment.

What to watch out for

Donuts are used instead of a rigid clamp-on adapter, so the matte box must be hung on rods. The manufacturer also specifies the 136 mm clamp-on adapter (MB-T17-136) as the carrier the donut fits onto.
