Tilta Nucleus-M II 7-Pin to RCP2 9-Pin Control Cable (50cm)

The Tilta TCB-7P-9P-50 is a control cable for the Nucleus-M II system for RED cameras with a 9-pin EXT port: a 7-pin plug (0B) into the port of the Nucleus-M II motor and a right-angle 9-pin plug (0B) into the EXT port of the camera. The camera takes commands over the RCP2 protocol, so from the Nucleus-M II FIZ hand unit you can wirelessly start recording and change ISO, shutter speed or white balance. The Tilta TCB-7P-9P-50 links the Nucleus-M II motor to the 9-pin EXT port of a RED camera. The motor is on the rig anyway and has a free 7-pin port — the cable turns it into a control line to the camera, so the focus puller sees the camera status on the FIZ hand unit and starts recording without touching the body.

The 7-pin plug (0B) goes into the free port of the Nucleus-M II motor, the right-angle 9-pin plug (0B) at the other end into the EXT port of the RED camera. The right angle keeps the cable tight to the body and out of the way of a side handle or cage. The camera talks over the cable using RCP2 (RED Control Protocol 2), so the Nucleus-M II FIZ hand unit shows the current values and changes them directly. The cable is straight, 50 cm long, with a ferrite core at the motor connector.

What the FIZ hand unit can control

Over the RCP2 line the FIZ hand unit starts and stops recording (run/stop) and changes camera settings such as ISO, shutter speed or white balance; the exact range depends on the camera model and its firmware. Update the firmware of the FIZ hand unit and the motor before first use. If you only need run/stop, a run/stop cable is enough; for RED cameras with a 4-pin CTRL port there is the sibling TCB-7P-RCP2-50. Pictured is the cable connected to a RED camera.
