The Tilta Extendable Shoulder Pad Baseplate for Camcorders is a baseplate with an extendable shoulder pad for the Sony PXW-Z200, Z280, Z380 and Canon XF605 camcorders. The Tilta Extendable Shoulder Pad Baseplate for Camcorders gives a shoulder camcorder what it lacks: a firm rest on the shoulder, travel for balancing and a third point of contact against the chest — without rods and without a full rig.

Manfrotto-style quick release plate, two locks

The camera sits on a Manfrotto-style quick release plate with two points of contact. The plate is held by an upper and a lower locking lever, so the camera only releases deliberately. The baseplate leaves the camera battery slot freely accessible and carries 1/4"-20 threads with locating points along the side for accessories — such as the Tilta Mini PD V Mount Battery Plate V2.

100 mm forward, 118.5 mm backward

The quick release plate slides up to 100 mm forward to balance the camera or get a clearer view of the monitor. The shoulder pad extends 118.5 mm in the opposite direction: the camera is fine-tuned on the shoulder and the viewfinder on the back of the body stays accessible. In total the setup has 218.5 mm of travel between the pad and the top plate.

Articulating shoulder pad

In the extended position the PU foam pad folds at its joint and braces against the chest — handheld shooting becomes steadier, even from a low angle, with a comfortable third point of contact and no extra weight. The front of the pad carries 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads for another quick release plate, which puts the whole baseplate with the camera onto a tripod or other support.

On the shoulder or in the hand

Two positions of one plate: on the shoulder the extended pad gives stable support for long shoots with a heavier camera; handheld, the folded pad braces against the chest and spreads the weight between hands and body.

A camcorder on the shoulder without a full rig

Shoulder camcorders such as the Sony PXW-Z200, Z280 and Z380 or Canon XF605 are usually held in the hand and merely rested on the shoulder. Tilta built a single plate for them instead of a whole rig with rods: the quick release plate stays under the camera, the shoulder pad extends backwards and the front threads take another plate for the tripod. The setup stays light and the camera comes off the shoulder as fast as it went on.
