Tilta 15mm LWS Baseplate for RED V-RAPTOR

The Tilta 15mm LWS Baseplate for RED V-RAPTOR is a baseplate that adds 15mm rod support to the RED V-RAPTOR — and with it matte boxes and follow focus systems. It mounts directly onto the Tilta Full Camera Cage for V-RAPTOR, held by a quick release connection with a safety release pin, and underneath it carries a receiver for the Tilta Standard dovetail plus 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads for third party quick release plates.

The Tilta 15mm LWS Baseplate for RED V-RAPTOR is the part that makes a rig around the cinema camera work in the first place: it adds 15mm rod support for a matte box, a follow focus or a lens support. The plate itself mounts onto the Tilta Full Camera Cage for V-RAPTOR and underneath it connects to the dovetail and to third party quick release plates.

The plate carries 15mm rod holders, so the RED V-RAPTOR takes every rod-based accessory — matte box, follow focus system, lens support or focus motor. The rods are secured by Tilta tie down levers that tighten by hand: no tool is needed and they hold their position even while the rig is being moved.

Mounts onto the cage and locks with a safety release pin

The plate is designed directly for the Tilta Full Camera Cage for RED V-RAPTOR. The cage drops in via a quick release connection, so the camera can be detached whenever needed and put back without readjustment. The built-in safety release pin locks the connection and adds a second layer of security, keeping the camera firmly on the plate while carrying it and while shooting handheld.

What is where on the plate

The manufacturer drawing shows the controls of the plate: the locking toggle that secures the cage, the 19mm baseplate locking toggle, the tie down for the rod holder, the tie down for the Manfrotto quick release plate, and the rod holder itself. The same drawing states that the plate is compatible with a 19mm baseplate.

Dovetail underneath plus 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads

Underneath there is a receiver that connects to the Tilta Standard dovetail; the ARRI standard is reached through the optional Tilta Standard to ARRI Standard Multi-Functional Baseplate. Anyone not using a dovetail can bolt the plate onto a third party quick release plate through the 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads — and the Manfrotto quick release plate has a tie down of its own.

The base of a RED V-RAPTOR rig

In a rig the baseplate is the part that carries everything else: the caged camera sits on it, the rods run forward to the matte box, and underneath the whole assembly goes onto a tripod head, a shoulder rig or a dovetail. Construction is aluminium alloy and stainless steel, and the plate weighs 349 g, so it barely adds to the load.

Compatibility

The manufacturer lists the plate for the RED V-RAPTOR camera and for the Tilta Full Camera Cage for RED V-RAPTOR.

According to the manufacturer drawing, the plate is compatible with a 19mm baseplate.

Connecting to the ARRI standard assumes the optional Tilta Standard to ARRI Standard Multi-Functional Baseplate; it is not included.

Points to note

The package contains the baseplate only — no cage, no 15mm rods and no quick release plate.

The manufacturer does not publish the dimensions of the plate itself; the „6.5 x 4.5 x 4 in" figure in its table refers to the packaging, which is why it is not listed in the specifications.
