Four aspherical elements and two ED elements with extra-low dispersion take advantage of high resolution across the entire 24–50 mm zoom range. Flare, ghosting, and color bleeding are suppressed for sharp rendering, and the 11-blade circular aperture at F2.8 creates beautiful bokeh typical of G lenses. A maximum magnification of 0.3x (AF)/0.33x (MF) with a minimum focusing distance of 0.19 m (0.63 ft) (AF)/0.18 m (0.59 ft) (MF) at the wide-angle end allows for amazing detail.

Two optimized linear motors and a precision control system achieve unprecedented speed and accuracy when focusing on any subject. Tracking performance is also excellent and fully compatible with the 120 fps speed of the advanced Sony α9 III camera. Precise and quiet focusing is achieved and maintained smoothly even when shooting high-frame-rate videos in 4K 120p or FHD 240p quality.

The optical design with four aspherical elements and a maximum aperture of F2.8 delivers exceptional performance. The diameter of this innovative lens does not exceed 74.8 mm and the length is 92.3 mm (3 x 3 3/4 inches). The use of engineering plastic in some parts increases durability while reducing weight to just 440 grams (15.6 oz.). This allows for high mobility and minimizes strain during long shoots.

Precise and quiet AF with F2.8 aperture of the compact, lightweight zoom lens makes shooting easy. With minimal changes to the center of gravity, the lens is ideal for use in a gimbal or mounted on a drone. Together with the camera's active stabilization mode, it allows the cameraman to shoot stable wide-angle footage on the move. Focus, zoom, and aperture rings allow for comprehensive control. The aperture ring has a click switch. The lens also has a customizable focus lock button and AF/MF mode switch. The front of the lens also has a fluorine coating. The filter diameter is 67 mm.
