Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II

The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is a professional S-Line telephoto zoom for Nikon Z cameras. Without the tripod collar and protective cover it weighs 998 g, and it features an internal zoom, Silky Swift voice coil motors and optical vibration reduction (VR) rated at 5.5 stops (up to 6 with Synchro VR). The 11-blade diaphragm gives soft bokeh and the lens is sealed to professional standards.

The lightest in its class

At 998 g, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is one of the lightest lenses in its class. It is 362 g (26%) lighter and 12 mm shorter than the previous generation, for better balance, agility and stability. It is more comfortable handheld, and the internal zoom keeps the centre of gravity fixed while zooming – ideal for a Z camera on a gimbal.

Next-level autofocus

Fast, quiet Nikon Silky Swift voice coil motors, a powerful guide mechanism and a multi-focus system with several synchronised lens groups greatly speed up response. Autofocus is up to 3.5× faster than the first generation and 50% quieter, with shorter refocusing at the long end and more precise subject tracking while zooming.

Softer bokeh, natural gradation

The improved 11-blade rounded diaphragm and new S-Line optics produce smoother, better-defined bokeh and beautifully rendered point light sources. Out-of-focus areas transition gently from the plane of focus, giving images a natural sense of depth and clear subject separation.

More speed, more stability

The fast f/2.8 aperture and in-lens optical vibration reduction (VR) rated at 5.5 stops provide confidence in demanding conditions. With compatible Z-series cameras, Synchro VR raises the effect to up to 6 stops and stabilises both the centre and the edges of the frame.

Next-generation S-Line optics

The new optical system uses fewer, more efficient elements to raise sharpness, bokeh quality and flare resistance, while the simpler design also reduced weight. It includes double-sided aspherical elements, a fluorite element, Super ED and SR glass, and Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat.
