The Neumann TLM 170 R MT Stereo Set combines two of Neumann's most versatile large-diaphragm condenser microphones in a professionally matched stereo package designed for the most demanding recording environments. Based on Neumann's pioneering FET 100 technology, the TLM 170 R was the first microphone to successfully employ this advanced transformerless circuit design, resulting in exceptionally low noise, high output capability, and an impressive dynamic range.

Each microphone features a precision dual-diaphragm capsule with five selectable polar patterns: omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid (narrow cardioid), and figure-8. These patterns allow the microphone to adapt to virtually any recording scenario, from solo vocals and instruments to orchestral, ambient, and stereo recording techniques. The unique "R" position enables remote pattern switching when used with the optional Neumann N 248 power supply, allowing engineers to adjust microphone characteristics without physically accessing the microphone.

The TLM 170 R delivers an exceptionally neutral frequency response and superior impulse accuracy, faithfully reproducing transients and subtle sonic details without coloration. A switchable 10 dB pad increases headroom for high-SPL sources, while the integrated low-cut filter helps reduce handling noise, rumble, and proximity effect when required.

The stereo set includes two EA 170 elastic shock mounts that effectively isolate the microphones from structure-borne vibrations and handling noise, ensuring clean and accurate recordings. The entire system is supplied in a rugged aluminum carrying case for secure transportation and storage.
