The Neumann TLM 170 R Stereo Set is a premium large-diaphragm condenser microphone pair designed for professional studio recording, broadcast, film, and orchestral applications. Featuring transformerless FET 100 technology, five switchable polar patterns, ultra-low noise performance, and remote pattern control capability, this stereo set delivers highly accurate, transparent sound reproduction with exceptional dynamic range.

The Neumann TLM 170 R Stereo Set is a reference-class stereo microphone system engineered for demanding professional recording applications including studio production, orchestral recording, film scoring, broadcast, television, and high-end acoustic capture. The set includes two matched TLM 170 R large-diaphragm condenser microphones, delivering exceptional sonic accuracy, low self-noise, and versatile multi-pattern operation.

As the first Neumann microphone to incorporate advanced FET 100 transformerless technology, the TLM 170 R achieves an impressive dynamic range and remarkably transparent signal reproduction. Its transformerless balanced output circuitry minimizes distortion and suppresses electromagnetic interference, resulting in an exceptionally clean and natural sound character.

Each microphone features a pressure-gradient transducer with a dual-diaphragm capsule and offers five selectable polar patterns:

• Omnidirectional
• Wide cardioid
• Standard cardioid
• Narrow cardioid
• Figure-of-eight

These patterns can be selected directly on the microphone or remotely via the optional Neumann N 248 power supply. In remote mode (“R”), the microphone automatically detects phantom voltage variations to switch polar patterns without requiring special cabling, enabling flexible remote operation in complex studio or broadcast setups.

The TLM 170 R is designed for pristine transient response and balanced frequency reproduction across all polar patterns. This makes it particularly effective for capturing vocals, orchestras, piano, strings, percussion, dialogue, and ambient recordings with outstanding realism and minimal coloration.

Integrated controls include a switchable 10 dB attenuation pad for handling extremely high SPL sources up to 144 dB, as well as a switchable bass filter to reduce rumble, handling noise, and proximity effect during close-mic applications.

The stereo set includes EA 170 elastic suspension mounts that isolate the microphones from mechanical vibrations and handling noise, along with a durable aluminum carrying case for secure storage and transport.
