Product description

The Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra is a new high-performance dock for Blackmagic Media Modules featuring two fully independent 100G Ethernet ports. It also offers SDI and HDMI status monitoring and synchronization with Blackmagic Cloud, which allows Blackmagic Media Modules to be used as extremely powerful removable storage.

Key Features:

  • Extremely powerful rack-mount dock for Blackmagic Media Modules.
  • Two independent 100G Ethernet ports for simultaneous recording and editing.
  • Synchronization with Blackmagic Cloud for global media collaboration.
  • Includes SDI and HDMI monitoring outputs with live storage status.
  • Front-to-back cooling with multiple fans for quiet operation.
  • Two redundant AC power supplies for broadcast-grade reliability.
  • Localization in 13 popular languages for international use

Blackmagic Media Dock models use the same high-speed media modules as Blackmagic URSA Cine cameras, giving customers high-performance storage that can be removed immediately. This is ideal for editing footage from URSA Cine cameras directly from the modules without copying files. It’s also the perfect solution for recording from the HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G, as the media can be removed immediately after a live production ends and taken with you. Two powerful models are available—one with four 10G Ethernet ports and the other with two separate 100G Ethernet ports. They even support synchronization with Blackmagic Cloud.

Blackmagic Media Docks feature a rack-mount design and can hold up to three Blackmagic Media Modules for network sharing, using the same modules as URSA Cine cameras. Each module contains four M.2 flash memory cards in RAID 0, ensuring extremely high speeds. The design features illuminated LED rings around each slot that indicate read and write activity on the media modules. The Media Dock Ultra model is a significantly more powerful design with higher network speeds, front-to-back cooling, and multiple fans for redundancy and quiet operation. Additionally, all models include dual redundant power supplies.

Creative teams can thus share a single local cache of media uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud for a truly global workflow. This significantly speeds up work, as files are immediately available to everyone without the need to download them from the internet. Users save space on individual computers, as the Blackmagic Media Dock serves as a central repository for all media accessible to everyone on the local network. Customers can even synchronize multiple Blackmagic Media Docks across different geographic locations, so everyone can collaborate globally without latency, since everyone uses a local copy of the media files.

Build cutting-edge digital film DIT setups and post-production workflows using the Blackmagic Media Dock. It allows multiple DaVinci Resolve workstations to instantly access recorded files directly on set, without the need to copy data. This means customers can use DaVinci Resolve for color grading directly on set. This is a great workflow when using URSA Cine cameras that record to Blackmagic Media Modules. Customers can also sync with Blackmagic Cloud and collaborate with colorists and editors off-site.

The most interesting features are the HDMI and SDI outputs for monitoring. Simply connect a monitor to get a live overview of the Blackmagic Media Dock’s status. Storage mapping displays a graphical representation of the modules’ total capacity as well as individual users’ read and write activity. Data transfer graphs for Ethernet connections are also available. The main space indicator shows the capacity of the media modules and how much is currently in use. It also displays the status of each synchronization with Blackmagic Cloud.

One of the major advantages of the Blackmagic Media Dock is private storage that customers have full control over. No subscription is required. There are no monthly license fees. There is no usage or data tracking. Customers do not need to use a paid cloud-based web service to manage storage, as the Blackmagic Media Dock includes a free software tool for both macOS and Windows. This means they can operate a private network completely disconnected from the internet.

Thanks to its 100G Ethernet ports, the Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra is ideally designed to work with the HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G for live production. This is a powerful combination, as the HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G can record up to 8 cameras simultaneously. Files are saved in broadcast-quality ProRes for very high image quality. Once the individual ISO recordings are captured, new programs can be created or live playback can be performed in DaVinci Resolve. Even while recording, DaVinci Resolve workstations can still work with the recording. The Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra is designed for this purpose, with one 100G port connecting to the HyperDeck and the other to a network switch and editing suites.

DaVinci Resolve offers powerful live playback features. Adding the Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra allows you to combine HyperDeck recorders, DaVinci workstations, and remote cameras into a single, state-of-the-art live replay system. In addition, the new multi-source viewer allows for visual browsing of footage, where clips with matching timecodes are displayed in a multiview. This is ideal for situations where footage is coming in real-time from remote cameras. The Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra is designed to perfectly support DaVinci Resolve for live sports broadcasts and replays.
