The bi-directional Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G converts SDI to optical and lets you extend transmission distances considerably, up to 16 km. This can substantially reduce costs and increase the distance of camera positions in live broadcasts. Cameras can work up to 16 km away from the control room, recorders and switchers over low-cost optical cabling. The converter also gives more flexibility when fitting out studios, sports stadiums or cultural and conference halls.

One converter, two paths
Multi-rate 12G-SDI supports SD, HD and Ultra HD up to 2160p60. A standard 3G, 6G or 12G-SDI SFP optical module can be installed in the socket; the SFP module is not included.

Two converters in one
Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G converts SDI to optical and optical back to SDI at the same time, and each direction can carry a different video standard. Each direction works independently of the other and carries 16 channels of embedded audio.
Standard SFP optical module
Any standard 3G, 6G or 12G-SDI SFP optical module can be installed in the SFP socket, so you can send SDI over the same low-cost optical cabling that is commonly used for computer networks. The SFP module is not included – Blackmagic offers 3G, 6G and 12G-SDI modules.
12G-SDI up to 2160p60
The multi-rate 12G-SDI connections are compatible with all SD, HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60 and with level A and B 3G-SDI equipment. Reclocking and ASI support keep the signal clean along the whole route.
Power with a locking connector
The included universal power supply has a locking connector, so the power cannot be accidentally disconnected. The converter has no user controls – it detects the format itself and draws just 2 W.
In the rack, in the truck and outdoors
The Mini Converter range of converters is built for 24/7 operation: the compact metal body fits into a studio rack, an outside broadcast truck or a live sports event outdoors. The connections are easy to reach and use standard cables.
Connections
One side has the SFP socket for the optical output and input, the other the 12G-SDI output and input on BNC connectors and the locking power input.

About the Mini Converter range
The Mini Converter range is designed for professional broadcast, post-production and AV installations. A compact metal chassis, high-quality connectors and standard cabling make it dependable in studios, control rooms and mobile systems.
The converter has no user controls – it detects supported formats automatically and keeps picture and sound stable throughout the signal chain.
