The Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS is a super-telephoto zoom lens designed for Sony's full-frame E-mount cameras. The limiter shortens the hunt

A switch restricts focus to 2.4–10 m or 10 m to infinity, or leaves the full range. The lens then wastes no time searching a zone where the subject is not.

Three focus hold buttons, 90° apart

The buttons sit around the barrel, so one is within reach in landscape and portrait, with the grip above or below. You assign the function yourself.

Stabilisation in three modes

Alongside the standard mode, optical stabilisation offers MODE 2 for panning with a subject and MODE 3, which steadies the viewfinder image. At 600 mm handheld, that is the difference between a shot and an attempt.

Five ED elements and an aspherical

ED glass suppresses the chromatic aberration that shows up badly in a super telephoto; the aspherical element handles spherical aberration and distortion.

Eleven aperture blades

The circular aperture keeps the defocused background smooth — and at these focal lengths the background almost always is.

Direct Drive SSM has the force to move a heavy focus group quickly, accurately and quietly.

Nano AR against ghosting

The nano-structured coating suppresses reflections that produce veiling flare and ghosts against the light.

Compatible with optional 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters, for a maximum focal length of 840 mm or 1,200 mm at F13. Both teleconverters are top quality, retaining outstanding image quality and AF performance. Zoom and aperture range with the 1.4x teleconverter is 280–840 mm, F8–9. With the 2.0x teleconverter the ranges are 400–1,200 mm, F11–13.

High resolution throughout the zoom range

Five ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and one aspherical element in a new optical design offer superb resolution and image quality throughout the zoom range. The aspherical element suppresses spherical aberration and distortion, while the ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration that can be a problem at super-telephoto focal lengths.

Beautiful, natural G lens bokeh

An 11-blade circular aperture mechanism adds to the beauty of the bokeh produced by this lens, making it possible to use the narrow depth of field available at super-telephoto focal lengths to produce striking images with deep, creamy G lens bokeh.

Fast, precise AF tracks swift subjects

Sony's DDSSM (Direct Drive Super Sonicwave Motor) system has the power and precision needed to drive the lens's mechanism for remarkably fast, accurate focusing. High positioning accuracy means that no movement is wasted. Pinpoint autofocus is achieved with blazing speed. The DDSSM system is incredibly quiet, too.

Nano AR Coating stops flare and ghosting

Sony's original Nano AR Coating has a uniform nanometer-level structure that breaks up the lens's boundary surface, significantly reducing reflections that can cause image-degrading flare and ghosting. 3-mode Optical SteadyShot

Optical image Stabilization makes it easier to shoot sharp images handheld at super-telephoto focal lengths. MODE 2 offers ideal Stabilization for panned shots, while MODE 31 provides enhanced viewfinder Stabilization that allows easier framing of erratic sports or wildlife movement. 5-axis Stabilization is available with compatible α bodies.

Internal zoom supports stable shooting

An internal zoom mechanism means that the length of the lens does not change while zooming, for stable handheld operation with consistent balance. Internal zoom also means that the distance between the front element and the subject does not change.

Three customizable focus hold buttons

Customizable focus hold buttons are provided in three locations 90° apart for easy access to shoot in horizontal orientation, or in vertical orientation with the camera grip up or down. Other functions can be assigned to the buttons as required.

Focus range limiter for faster focus

A focus range limiter switch makes it possible to limit the lens's autofocus range to 2.4 through 10 meters, 10 meters to infinity, or allow full-range autofocus with no limit. This can speed up autofocus in some situations by preventing the lens from focusing on subjects outside the target range.

Natural, linear manual focus response

Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise.

Fluorine front-element coating

The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.

A removable tripod mount allows quick attachment to or removal from a tripod so the user can easily switch between tripod and handheld shooting. The mount can also be removed for convenient transport and storage. A lock mechanism prevents accidental removal.
