Sony ECM-77B

The Sony ECM-77B is a miniature lavalier microphone with an electret condenser capsule and an omnidirectional pattern. Its 3 m cable ends in a power supply unit with an XLR connector that runs on an AA battery or on 48 V phantom power. It is built for studio work, field news gathering and outside production, and runs for about 6,000 hours on a single AA cell.

A 5.6 × 12.5 mm head that hides behind a lapel

On camera the microphone is barely visible and the presenter stays hands-free. The 3 m cable leaves plenty of slack between the lapel and the camera, recorder or transmitter.

AA battery or phantom power

The power supply unit with its XLR-3-12C connector takes one AA battery, which runs the microphone for approx. 6,000 hours. When the camera or mixer input supplies +48 V phantom power, no battery is needed.

Three clips included

A single vertical clip, a single horizontal clip and a double horizontal clip cover different ways of fixing it to clothing. They come with a metal-mesh windscreen, which keeps wind noise at 40 dB SPL or less, and a microphone case.

Balanced 150 Ω output

The 150 Ω ±20% output is balanced and connects to a professional XLR microphone input.

Up to 120 dB SPL

The microphone handles sound pressure up to 120 dB SPL. Dynamic range is at least 90 dB and the signal-to-noise ratio at least 64 dB.

The microphone has a flat, wide frequency response and low self-noise. As a lavalier microphone it leaves the presenter hands-free to concentrate on the performance. It suits studio work, electronic news gathering (ENG) and electronic field production (EFP).
