Blackmagic Streaming Decoder 4K receives an H.264 or H.265 signal from an encoder, a compatible camera or an ATEM switcher and converts it to 12G-SDI and HDMI at up to 2160p60. It is designed for reliable remote studio links and camera signal workflows; its 12G-SDI reference input sends tally, talkback and camera control back to the source.

From the stream back to SDI and HDMI

Blackmagic Streaming Decoder 4K receives an H.264 or H.265 stream and converts it to 12G-SDI and HDMI video. Together with the encoder it builds a broadcast link between two locations over the internet.

Broadcast links over the internet

An encoder at the remote location and a decoder in the control room connect cameras to a central control room – including tally, talkback and camera control back to the shoot.

H.264 and H.265 reception

RTMP streams in H.264 or SRT streams in H.265 from an encoder, an ATEM switcher or a Blackmagic camera.

Tally, talkback and camera control

The 12G-SDI reference input sends tally, talkback and camera control back to the encoder.

Output format conversion

The 12G-SDI and HDMI outputs follow the stream standard or convert it to a chosen format.

Blackmagic Cloud

Besides direct links it also receives streams via the Blackmagic Cloud streaming features.

Professional stream decoder

Blackmagic Streaming Decoder 4K receives an H.264 or H.265 stream from Blackmagic Streaming Encoder, an ATEM switcher or a Blackmagic camera and converts it back to 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 video. It works with HD and Ultra HD standards up to 2160p60, and on the HDMI output also with 4K DCI formats up to 60p.

Broadcast links with the decoder

Blackmagic Streaming Decoder 4K receives the H.264 or H.265 stream from the encoder and converts it to SDI and HDMI video, so video can be sent point-to-point between remote locations. The decoder's 12G-SDI reference input carries tally, camera control and talkback back to the encoder – everyone is remote, but still working together.

Tally, talkback and camera control back to the shoot

The 12G-SDI reference input takes tally, camera control and talkback from the SDI output of an ATEM switcher and sends them back to the encoder at the location. You can change ISO, tint, iris, focus and zoom of Blackmagic cameras remotely. It also works with cameras with built-in streaming.

Output format conversion

The 12G-SDI output and the 4K HDMI output can follow the standard of the received stream or convert it to a chosen format from 720p25 to 2160p60. Source timecode from the stream is available on the 12G-SDI output.

Direct links and Blackmagic Cloud

The decoder receives RTMP streams in H.264 or SRT streams in H.265 directly from the encoder or a compatible Blackmagic camera, on your own network or over the internet, and it also receives streams via the Blackmagic Cloud streaming features.

USB-C as a webcam

The USB-C connection can be used as a webcam output at up to 2160p60, so any video call or streaming software on a computer can take the received stream.

Power and control

The decoder has a built-in 100–240 V AC power supply and a 4-pin 12 V DC input for backup or battery power and, like the encoder, takes up one third of a rack width. It is set up with the front panel buttons and 2.2″ display, via USB-C, Ethernet or Blackmagic Streaming Utility.

Receiving signals as SDI or HDMI

Professional 4K decoder for remote studio links and camera signal workflows. It receives the data stream from Blackmagic Streaming Encoder, a compatible camera or an ATEM switcher and converts it to professional SDI and HDMI video.

You can create a direct link between locations or connect via Blackmagic Cloud. The return data path carries tally, talkback and camera control. Built-in conversion adapts the resolution and frame rate to the connected output device.

The monitor output shows video, audio meters, network data and the status of the incoming stream. The 12G-SDI reference input is used for the return signal, and the decoder also has 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0 and USB-C outputs.
