VAXIS VFX 4x5.65" CPL-VND FILTER

VAXIS VFX VND-CPL 4×5.65″ is a set of a rotatable and a fixed polarizing filter for matte boxes. On their own they work as CPLs; stacked they form a variable ND 0.6–3.3 in a single 6 mm slot. The frame is geared for follow focus.

A variable ND is made by stacking two polarizers: rotating one against the other changes the density from 0.6 to 3.3. VAXIS VFX VND-CPL brings this principle to the 4 × 5.65″ matte box format – a rotatable CPL in a geared frame and a 2 mm fixed CPL together take up just one slot.

Fits a standard matte box

The set fits 4 × 5.65″ matte boxes. The rotatable and the fixed CPL can also be used separately in the matte box.

One slot instead of two

The stacked set is only 6 mm thick, like an ordinary filter, so the matte box has room for more filters.

Exposure on the follow focus

The rotatable CPL frame has a 0.8 module gear and takes a 15 mm rod above it. With a wireless follow focus you change density smoothly during the shot.

From dark to sunlight in one take

Instead of swapping ND filters you simply turn the rotatable CPL. Walk from an interior into daylight without a jump in exposure – by hand, on a follow focus or remotely from a jib.

Four functions in one set. Rotatable CPL, fixed 4 × 5.65″ CPL, variable ND by stacking both and, with a colour filter, variable colour temperature.

Detachable design. Remove the fixed CPL to use it alone, use the rotatable CPL as an adjustable polarizer, or stack them for a variable ND.

Quick installation. The set fits a standard 4 × 5.65″ matte box; the rotatable and fixed CPL can also be used separately.

Each filter on its own. The rotatable CPL works alone in a square matte box, and the 2 mm fixed CPL can be removed and used as a fixed polarizer.

Combining filters. The fixed CPL can be mounted on either side of the frame for different effects.

Gradual exposure change. A square filter mounted at the front forms an infinitely adjustable ND with the rotatable CPL.

Variable colour temperature. With a square Color Temp-CPL filter (sold separately) mounted at the back you change colour temperature smoothly.

One slot, 6 mm. The stacked set is as thin as an ordinary filter and combines with other filters in the matte box.

Optical glass, true colour. A double-sided multi-layer coating repels water and grease, with no obvious black cross even at maximum density.

Follow focus and 15 mm rod. Mount a 15 mm rod above the frame and control exposure during the shot with a wireless follow focus – even remotely on a jib.

Specifications. ND range 0.6–3.3, colour temperature 3200–6500 K, 6 mm thickness, one slot and a 0.8 module gear.
