Tilta Swing Away Adapter for Tilta Mirage Pro Matte Box

The Tilta MB-T17-SAA Swing-Away Adapter lets you swing the Mirage Pro matte box aside for a lens change instead of taking it off the rods. It is also the part that adds tilt to the matte box, against flare and ghosting between the filter glass and the front element. Tilt is set by a wheel, or remotely through a whip. The adapter mounts on a 15 mm LWS or 19 mm studio rod adapter, sold separately.

The Swing-Away Adapter for the Tilta Mirage Pro Matte Box is the joint between the rod adapter and the matte box body. It does two things at once: it swings the whole matte box aside and tilts it a few degrees forwards or backwards.

Swings aside instead of coming off

For a lens change the matte box swings out to the side and comes back once the new glass is on — no removing it from the rods and no realigning. Closing is a single motion with automatic locking, so the rig secures itself and will not spring open in motion.

Tilt against ghosting and flare

The second function is tilt. The matte box tips on a wheel with a detent, which clears the flare and ghosting that form between the filter glass and the front element. In the full assembly — swing-away adapter, rod adapter and rubber donut — the range is ±25° of tilt and ±15 mm of height. Tilt can also be set from a distance through the MB-T17-WA whip adapter.

What else you need

The swing-away adapter cannot put the matte box on rods by itself — it needs the MB-T17-LRA-15 (15 mm LWS) or MB-T17-SRA-19 (19 mm studio) rod adapter. For the full range of tilt and height a rubber donut from the MB-T17-RDK set is added as well. None of that is in the box.
