The Khronos Magnetic 58mm Variable ND Filter (6-10 Stops) (Black) takes 6 to 10 stops of light out, continuously. Its 58mm diameter covers all three iPhone cameras at once. The filter snaps magnetically onto the Khronos 58mm filter tray, which slides into the slot of a Khronos case for iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max and iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max, or a Khronos Lite case for iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max — neither the tray nor the case is included.

A 6-10 stop range

Turning the front ring changes the density continuously between six and ten stops. In optical density that is ND 1.8 to ND 3.0, or ND64 to ND1024 in the common notation — from 1/64 of the light down to 1/1024.

What it is for

The weaker of the two Khronos variable ND filters covers ordinary daylight; this one takes over where that one runs out. Six stops is 64 times less light, ten stops 1024 times less — the reserve you need for midday sun, snow, water or a beach, where the iPhone would otherwise push the shutter into thousandths of a second and the footage looks stuttery. Tilta packs both filters into the Ultimate Kit so that up to ten stops can be taken away in total and the shutter kept at twice the frame rate even in very bright surroundings. On a tripod it gets you to long exposures in daylight — smoothed water, streams of people. Indoors or at dusk it is far too dark; that is what the weaker filter is for.

58mm diameter

The 58mm glass covers all three iPhone cameras at once, so the filter still applies after switching to the ultra-wide or the telephoto.

How the filter gets onto the phone

The filter does not attach to the phone directly. It snaps magnetically onto the Khronos 58mm filter tray, and that tray slides into the dedicated slot of a Khronos or Khronos Lite case. The tray is tied to the phone model — there is one each for iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Neither the tray nor the case is included with the filter.

Do not confuse the two trays: the Khronos quick release filter tray is made for the rectangular Khronos magnetic filters (FSND, Black Mist, White Mist) and this circular 58mm filter does not belong on it.
